5GHz sector antenna comparison

Has anyone compared the ubi 5GHz sectors panels? The AM-V5G-Ti 120deg variable is $100 more for me than the AM-5G19-120. Would running the cheaper sector with sheilding yeild similar results? The towers I'm looking at have nothing on them to compete with, and I may run 3.65 backhauls. The cost difference would mean I can run 4 sectors.....

3.65ghz is about to die in the FCC. Your backhaul in that case will either have to be a licensed link, 24ghz or the new lower UNII-1 5.1-5.2ghz channels. I think the regular 5.8ghz antennas with a shield kit performs about the same if not a little better than the ti antennas without a shield kit. If possible try and get a third party antenna for the lower UNII 5ghz band or you'll take about a 10db hit on the signal strength with current UBNT sectors if not more with the power output reduction.

I'm in Australia. We've only recently had 3.65 opened for use for regional wireless backhaul. License will be $1000 or $2000 per link/year depending on area, so if I can get a solid 5GHz link then that's what I'd prefer.

In my experience the regular 90 sector with shield is just a bit better than Ti sector at 90. Nothing earth shattering, but just enough to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside because you just saved a few $$ also.

So on a bare tower - ie: no competition, what are people doing? 4 x 90, 8 x 90, what can you fit with adequate channel spacing? I've heard to not do more than 30 clients per sector with Ubi M5's.

On most of my towers I have the following configuration:
(3) 2.4 GHz sectprs running 10 MHz wide channels
(5) 5.7 to 5.8 GHz sectors running 20 MHz wide channels
(6) 5.2 to 5.7 GHz DFS sectors running 20 or 30 MHz wide

Also a random dumber of NanoBridge DFS for high end PTP customers dunning 10 to 30 MHz wide.

I feed the towers with 2 or more 24 GHz airFIBER links or sometimes SAF licensed links.

Here is an old video of a tower being put in 3 years ago. It down has more sectors, several NanoBridge PTP links for high end customers and the back hauls are now airFIBER 24 GHz.

I always use 120 degree legacy sectors and Rockets.

Why do you use 120s vs 90s?

How do you overlap all of the 5 ghz sectors? Do you do back to back frequencies?

I do not need to over lap or reuse channels?

There are 5 20MHz channels in 5.7 to 5.8 without over lapping, and there certainly is room for 6 DFS sectors using 20 and 30 MHz channels with room to spare.

I never have overlapping channels on the same tower, shield kits are GREAT tools but they will not let you walk on water or feed the masses with a loaf of bread and a couple fish.

In fact they were on top of that tank in the video.
