What if you got low and wanted to do 1 or 2 blocks at a time will 5GHZ take trees at under a 1/4 mile or is there something better? By low I mean on a house or garage in a dense urban area with about 25 home per block.

5 Gz really does not work well without CLOS.

All I can say is that if there was a magic way to do what your asking WISP would all be doing it.

Anything urban is also a nightmare from noise from dual band APs and multi-path which is why "most" WISPs stay out of urban unless they are on water tanks and hit a 3 miles radius with CLOS so they have a good SNR like I do. When your AP is 150' up it does not hear dual band indoor APs that well so the noise at the AP is manageable but then you have other private outdoor radios to watch for.

Been at this for 15+ years, it can be a pain in the ass even for experienced RF guys.
