I wonder if I should change the AF5x ports to 24V instead of 24VH so that nothing gets weird during the upgrade.

YES PLEASE, and before you upgrade as that is invalid on the WS-12-250A WS-12-250B, WS-24-400A, WS-24-400B

It is not like it works as software can not put hardware on the board that is not there

Thanks for the info. I changed it to straight 24V, and turned off POE smart. Works just fine.

If you have v1.3.8 or newer you can turn POE Smart ON which I suggest.

We dumbed down POE Smart and it now only looks for "cross-shorts" and if you have "cross-shorts" you do NOT want to apply power.

This can save you from an installer OH-SHIT moment crimping an end wrong!

I finally had a chance to upgrade the WS-12-250A that was running 1.3.2 and showing 24VH on the first four ports.
After setting the ports to 24V and upgrading, the option to even select 24VH is now gone.
I have another 1.3.2 switch that is showing 24VH on ports 1-4.
I'm considering just running the upgrade on this switch without changing it to 24V first since this is a fiber fed tower now and the wireless link is just back up. hope nothing goes crazy.... will report.

The switch was smart. It automatically set the ports from 24VH which was invalid to 24V after the upgrade from 1.3.2 to 1.3.8.
