I was attempting to upgrade my switch, but it gets to this point (see attachment) and fails to go further, it just sits here indefinitely.
Now I'm extremely nervous about rebooting it. Am I going to be OK, or should I expect a truck roll? Please advise.
Thanks!

Re: firmware upgrade hangs
try hitting refresh on our browser.
if it takes you yo a login screen then login, if it is in the process of upgrading it will tell you.
Once the file uploads and upgrade begins the upgrade process is on the switch not your computer, you can actually close your browser once the file uploads and upgrade begins.

Re: firmware upgrade hangs
The switch just takes me back to either a login or to a main page, the software has not updated. I don't have any more details to show other than the screenshot of the switch taking the firmware, but no other output. Is it safe to reboot the switch remotely or no?

I have no idea what is going on as this is not normal behavior.
I would assume it would be OK to reboot but again, not there, no idea what transpired, or what caused your issue to begin with.
I would try another computer and or browser.

Re: firmware upgrade hangs
Understood Chris. Is there a way to upgrade software via CLI? Perhaps that would yield better diagnostic information and indicate if it would be safe to reboot or not. This particular switch is in a not so easy to get to location.

- Code: Select all
firmware upgrade tftp://192.168.0.19/wispswitch-1.X.X.bin
That is my preferred method - eliminates browser and p.c. issues.
Setup a TFTP server on the network, and put your firmware files in the root
I've also updated via the Manager several times and find it very reliable.

Re: firmware upgrade hangs
You can also use the Manager software and upgrade switches: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1549#p11439
But I have upgrade thousands of units over the years and never saw this but I always use Chrome and sometimes if a switch has been up for a LONG time I will reboot it first then upgrade it but there are times I do not and other than power failures have never bricked a switch.

Re: firmware upgrade hangs
Run time was 100 days. The TFTP download took forever (20 minutes) and this is directly attached to the backbone network. I assume some HTTP timeouts prevented the firmware upgrade via GUI. Looks like the tftp upgrade was as success. The switch rebooted and it's still accessible. Thanks Chris.
