Firmware update odd behavior

I have a WS-12-250-DC switch with 1.5.1rc4 installed which is locking up if I plug in or unplug a cable with no power applied to the port - but linked to a non-POE device.

I thought it could be a firmware issue so I uploaded 1.5.6 to the device. The firmware uploaded, and the Upgrade screen changed to "Do not turn off power while upgrade is in progress!" but the progress meter has not moved after 20 minutes.

Is firmware update actually in progress? I need to plug a cable but I am concerned that it may cause the switch to lock up, requring a hard power cycle, but if the switch is doing the firmware update it may frag the switch!

How do I know if the switch has been corrupted? It's up and running, I can change VLANs etc. I'm just concerned that I still have a window that says "DO NOT TURN OFF POWER" but has not changed and is sitting at 0%

How can I tell if something is corrupted/broken?

I wouldn't call 1.5.1rc4 "very old" when it's only a couple revisions behind current, and posts only a year ago reference this firmware (so it seems to be only about a year old).

Refresh your page, if you still have access, then you can simply do the update again.

Thanks Stephen, just worried about getting into a background situation where "it erased the flash but didn't write the new firmware"!

Personally, the only time I've ever seen that is if the switch loses power while it is writing the flash. Very rarely does it happen. More often a packet or 2 was lost when uploading the file over a wobbly connection. So the firmware file is corrupted, in which case the switch just reject's it and you can try again.
