Switch fried Siklu and then a rocket

Thu Mar 04, 2021 2:04 pm

Hiya Guys.

Had an issue start this week.

Switch iss running two siklus 48vh and handful of 24v ubnt kit.

Monitoring showed full outage and on arrival the switch had rebooted, with partial service.

1 Siklu was fried and 1 rocket. Netonix reported a 121w pull from the Siklu.

Disconnected faulty hardware. Replaced rocket and left Siklu off until a climb could be completed.

The next day. Alert came in. The replacement rocket and another were fried.

1 Siklu still all good.

Please note all hardware is on 1 mast. Bolted to steel shed with earth from mast to netonix switch and bonded to shed at the bottom.

Unit runs on ubnt 150w edge power. No bond between the two as the edge power receives earth from ac supply via under ground cable.

Currently we have replaced the two. Rockets and service is still running.

Does anyone have any thoughts. That's like £4k of damage in two days plus downtime....

I've ordered a replacement switch and a new Siklu is running on just AC not via netonix and into a mikrotik rb260gsp powered from a 24v on the netonix.

Something clearly odd happening. Any help appreciated.

Switch has been in for 3 weeks.

Thanks

OK, try this, I will bet that you have a ground potential between the AC ground and your mast ground. Make a ground buss bar point at the location that your AC ground come into. put in a ground rod at that point and connect it to the buss bar. Ground the AC ground that to the buss bar. Run a large wire from the buss bar up to the mast and ground the mast. Run a large wire from the shed to the buss bar. Run a large wire from your UBNT equipment to the buss bar. Run a wire from the Netonix to the buss bar. Now EVERYTHING should be on the same ground potential. You should also run a ground wire from your Ignitenet radio to the mast ground wire.

We bought in a specialist to review this site and he found the grounding was adequate because of how the mast and hardware was bonded. He also agreed to sepeation of AC and DC supplies as the site isn't allowed PME.

I'm surprised netonix haven't butted in....

The main worrying concern is. Even on the bench, the netonix switch is frying anything 24v. Before it's mentioned, yes, it's a 24v port.

I suppose I'll have to rma it considering its brand new.
