I just set up a system in the lab & trying your setup works fine every time.

However, it did shut off the first time i tried it because I had my current limit set to low on my lab dc supply. That will happen
if our dc-dc switch supply can't get enough current it will shut down & not start up again until power has been removed completely.

Not saying this is the issue for sure, but when you are running at 12 volts input you will need about 5 amps or more to run your 50 watt load, and you will need
a lot more for surge power when devices switch on.

Even though you say battery's are fresh, can you make sure cable from batteries to our switch is good & heavy AWG and a real good contact to your battery's.

I will continue to try to make it fail, but no luck so far.

Switch connected to battery bank by ~ 1 foot of 8 gauge wire
Battery bank is 8 x 100AH with less than a week in service so ... no shortage of power there

Yea, he says he has TONS of current but maybe a lug is bad or the connectors need cleaned? - GRASPING AT STRAWS HERE.

Now keep in mind Dave is LAB 'ing this with loads not that LigoPTP radio which "could" be an issue?

Sure does sound like the Ligo. What happens when you power it with its normal POE? They haven't reversed POE power pins on that model have they? Could the Ligo positive pins be shorted to ground where it would run OK on a separate floating POE but get into trouble When it and the 12V battery supply share a common ground?

Interesting thoughts on the current starvation but on restart the ligo is up and running. I suppose next trip to the site I can take some other devices to see how it responds to other loads.

Question ; What exactly does the power smart function do ?

If Enabled ( I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU LEAVE IT ENABLED ) POE Smart just checks the cable for cross shorts in the cable before it applies POE power to a port when you select and turn on POE for a port on the Ports Tab when you click save and Apply and on boot up from a cold start.

From the extremely annoying files ... I finally got to bench test this switch, with a close simulation (cable lengths different) of the previous situation, and it will not misbehave :headb:

To all who suggested it was likely a crap battery connection ... you were probably correct

Now running 1.3.7, going to set it up for a different site, I doubt if it will give me any trouble :working:
