ghost traffic! :D
So... "what's interesting about this?"
I'll tell you what. Nothing is plugged into that port. I've seen this twice now, once on factory firmware (1.0.6rc2 I think?), and now that I've upgraded to 1.0.9.
How is this even possible?
Thanks

Re: ghost traffic! :D
Never saw this on any of my switches.
My guess would be some type of arp or broadcast from your network.
Do you have anything configured in the switch like RSTP, LAG or such?
Any issue you can tell us how to recreate can be addressed.
We just query the switch core for these stats, VITESSE wrote the core so please explain your exact config and how to recreate it but if it is some type of traffic from your network it might not be able to be recreated.

Chris there is nothing plugged into that switch port, and never has been. That's why it's "unusual".

I agree BUT I have never seen it happen and not sure how to recreate it to fix it?
Figure out how to recreate it and we will fix it!, I promise.

I have the same reported on two ports after flashing 1.1.8 so I'm guessing nobody has been able to repro this. It is no big deal and I don't expect Eric to spend time on trying to repro it, I'm just sayin'.sirhc wrote:josh wrote:Chris there is nothing plugged into that switch port, and never has been. Do we have a general thread going for minor UI cosmetic stuff? I'd like to suggest that the Uptime under Device > Status get a little TLC. When I first bring it up, I get x days xx hours xx mins xx secs. Well, actually, the xx part not so much as it doesn't pad out to two spaces so the line length jumps about (pet peeve), but that is not the real bug. The real bug is that at some point it stops reporting the hours, and just show x days xx mins xx secs.
But hey! Look at it as a good sign, when all we can find are minor cosmetic bugs to bitch about.

Re: ghost traffic! :D
I will talk to Eric about the Ghost traffic, it "could" be a bug in how he is dealing with the info he gets from the Core, maybe some match/variable issue or something along those lines but if it is not this will require a ticket to be opened to Vitesse as Eric just queries the Core for those stats so that would be in Vitesse's code.
As far as the Uptime I will say something to Eric, I too do not like the format jumping around.

The line length jumps around even more when the days part disappears. On my MINI it doesn't seem to come and go, but on 1.1.8, it disappears for a second and then returns. I think I was unclear on that.

Do you know if "hours" disappears when it actually has a value of zero?
btw having "zeroes", even leading, on a date would not be a bad thing

Re: ghost traffic! :D
I've seen this ghost traffic a couple of times on my switches. seems like it was earlier firmware though... Can't remember the version.
Also now that most of my switches are full with devices plugged in it's hard to tell. :)
