WS-6-MINI 48V Out of Range?

I just recently installed 2 WS-6-MINIs and one of them is saying the 48V is out of range. It currently bounces between 43V to 41V. The switch is powered with a 50V Airfirber 24 Power supply and is currently powering one AF24 and one NBM5-22. The cable run is around 75 meters and runs through a UBNT Surge Arrestor. The PoE injector is plugged into a customer provided power strip that I believe is plugged into a UPS.


What should I do to resolve this?

I might also add this is a newly installed private link for a major Book Publisher to link their main building to a new building and i just completed the install today. I need to have any issues resolved before the end of the week as this is when they plan to go live.

Well your problem is voltage drop.

Possible solutions:

1) If everything works ignore the warnings.

2) Replace CAT5e cable with CAT6 with a heavier copper gauge to reduce voltage drop.

3) Replace POE injector with a unit that supplies 53V ot 56V on all 4 pair (I know, where to find one is the question)

My fear is you are pushing that AF24 POE brick too hard and it may fail? We are working on our own POE brick that is bigger.

1. Right now everything works, but like you I am concerned about the PoE injectors life span.
2. The line run was a b***(ran two lines with one as a spare) so I really do not want to have to rerun the line with CAT6. Currently on Toughcable Pro.
3. I will see if one exists, but I am not hopeful.

Not sure, it mentions mid-span which means it has a switch built into it.

Also seams to imply "active" POE, it might do "passive" POE?

Could not find polarity PINOUT, you "NEED" power delivered on all 4 pair not just 2 pair.

If you can take a look at the spec sheet and see if it is compatible with your switch I can buy one on Amazon for around $100. Don't really want to buy it unless it will work and not damage anything.

The polarity is fine and actually I forgot that the WS-6-MINI has a bridge rectifier in it so it fixes any "pair" polarity mis-match. THe only thing that confuses me is it says 802.3af controlled which is "active".

The WS-6-MINI requires "passive" POE which means ON with no negotiations.

Tycon PoE supplies for AF are 56V so the 6 extra volts should make up for the line loss. I wonder if the following one would work?

The import thing to look for is that they deliver power on all 4 pair. If only on 2 pair you can damage the Ethernet transformer in the switch and you lose more voltage on 2 pair.
