Hi,

What does everyone use for WS-6-MINI enclosures ? We bought few of these along with the proposed plastic enclosure from the website [ENC-SW-8X5] but for last 2 days we've had 27C outside (about 81F) and some switches are getting really hot IMO:

All minis are mounted on a tower close to antennas and the enclosure is in direct sunlight in the afternoon...

Can/should these run that hot ? If not does anyone have any good idea how to cool them down ?

Those temps are fine for that unit.

HOWEVER I would always try and mount the boxes where they are NOT in direct sunlight if at all possible.

Behind an antenna or the legs of the tower.

How did you mount the switch inside the box?

Hopefully not with 2 sides tape or velcro?

The switch should be attached with screws so the chassis is in contact with the plastic box to help dissipate a little heat as tape would insulate the chassis from the box and no heat would transfer.

I pre-drill and tap 8/32 holes in the plastic box and use Zinc or stainless 8/32 screws to attach switch inside box.

You can also Google NEMA plastic vents and could put a top and bottom vent in the box in real hot environments.

Unfortunately there's no shade on these towers (on top of few story brick/concrete buildings). Buildings themselves tend to get hot in the sun which I suppose is making things only worse.

Switches are mounted with zinc plated screws with pre-drilled holes. No tapes in the back at all.

Plastic vents might be hard to find in this part of the world, but I was thinking for next setup we should use an aluminum version of the box that would help dissipate heat:

[you can use google translate for this one ;)]

Do you think it would be a good idea ?

You can order those vents on line and have shipped anywhere.

You may not need any vents but the is the beauty of online shopping they come to you from anywhere.

Make a sun visor that shades the box and bolts to tower
