We had a power supply fail and after recovering, we now are getting this error on 2 ports:

Aug 31 10:03:29 switch[1368]: Port 3: PoE is enabled and port has link, power should not be 0


You can see by the attached screen shot, we actually have 3 ports with POE turned on and the switch is showing 0 watts but the radios are powered and up.

I upgraded the switch to the latest RC 1.4.3rc7


All seems to be working OK, but we continue to get the red alerts?

I am guessing your power supply died from a surge or ground potential shift as some of the port's current sensors are obviously damaged as well and now no longer report wattage.

So the switch is confused wondering why POE is ON if there is no current being used.

Looks like sensors on ports 3, 4, and maybe 6 are damaged?

Is the WS-8-150-DC hooked directly to your battery bank?

Quite possible a surge issue, in panama it is a daily occurrence it seems. Last week I lost $2k worth of electronics in my house...

The WS-8-250-DC is connected to the load side of the battery charger/US, it is an ITC 24v 360watt

I guess we will keep using it until it dies.

This is the charger/UPS we are using, we thought it would perform better than meanwell and the chinese ones we have but nothing seems to be able to tolerate the widely varying voltages here.

The
ICT24024-15BC2 is a high efficiency, power factor corrected universal AC input DC power supply and three stage battery charger that operates as a DC UPS, providing uninterrupted DC power to critical loads, even when AC mains fail. The ICT IntelliCharge Series design allows the battery charge to be regulated independently from the DC outputs, meaning that the battery will always receive the optimal charging current without the load being affected. Intelligent 3-stage charging will bring a battery back to a full state of charge much faster than trickle or float charging. The IntelliCharge Series supports temperature compensated charging and adjustable battery chemistry types, and remote alarms.

Just so you know the newer rev F board which this unit is a rev F have protection Diodes protecting the current sensors from over voltage so unless this was a direct or near strike its not over voltage and besides a near or direct strike would do far more damage than tear out your current sensors and DC power supply/charger.

So you might ask what does this mean, well it means that the damage you took here is probably from a ground potential shift.

So my questions would be:
1) Can you check the Electrical service ground rods for corrosion and even added an additional ground rod or 2 and bond them all together.

2) Is the Electrical service ground rods bonded to the tower ground rods with a think heavy cable like #2, it should be unless the service gound rods are over 35' away then follow what is in #3 below.

3) If the Electric service ground rods are more than 35' from tower ground rods then you want to do what is explain in this post: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1786&start=30#p13447

4) Do you have an isolated dedicated #2 Green ground wire running from the insulated Main Ground Bus at the base of tower to an insulated ground bus near the antennas and a #6 wire from ground bus to each antenna?

Seriously please read these posts with an open mind.

Ground Potential Shifts do more damage then surges or direct strikes combined X 10 it is just that people do not understand what low voltage high amperage does and overlook ground potential.

Seriously add a couple new ground rods to your house electrical service and I bet you lose a whole lot less equipment.

When I bought my house 18 years ago it had poor ground rods and I lost stuff left and right in just rain storms (ground potential). After a couple years resisting my older brothers advice I added 2 new ground rods 5' and 10' away from existing ground rod and I have NEVER lost anything else in all these years at my house.
