So long long ago while experimenting with ToughSwitch performance I switched an AP to 100M-Half Duplex and then forgot about it.
When connecting my WS12 I had no recollection and left the AP on 100M-Half and the switch was on Auto. The switch claimed to have a 100M Full connection and piled up errors, I blamed my cabling and as it was an almost idle AP ( 1 light client ) , I put off doing anything about it. Last night aircontrol called the AP offline, I couldn't reach it until reboot done, I then noticed the odd setting and since setting the AP to Auto the errors have ceased.

Is this a bug ? I dunno, it started with me effing with things and forgetting about it .

Its not a bug in the switch.

There are several post from UBNT on their forums where they tell people not to set the radios off of Auto as hard setting them can cause undesired results and should only be done as a last resort but if you do you need to manually set speed duplex make sure both sides of the Ethernet link is hard set to the same settings as this is also discussed on many manufacturer white papers.

Functions like duplex are handled by the switch core itself, in fact pretty much all normal switch functions are handled by the core of any switch, all people like Netonix and UBNT do is write the UI to interact with the core. The code of any switch core is pre-installed in the switch chip in fact it is not changeable by anyone, there are things like HOT FIXES to this software that can be loaded by the chip manufacturer's API or drivers at time of boot.

Even though our switch is new the Chipset it is based on, the VSC7427 has been in production for years and anything wrong with something like speed/duplex would have been discovered and fixed long ago.

We noticed in the past with Cisco switches, you had to set the radios to 100 full and auto on the Cisco otherwise we would see a performance hit.

We've not seen this issue with the Netonix. Radios are on Auto and Netonix is on auto. However, we see much better performance with

Rocket XW M5 Titanium than with the older 100mb Rocket M5. I know Chris hasn't seen an issue here as far as performance on older Rockets - but we

sure do see it. Our opinion it's much better to use 1 gig connections rather than mixing it up. I hate to get so vested in XW titanium radios right now

especially when the AC is now coming out and the only firmware version that works well on the XW is in BETA! Serious though - Love the Netonix switch.

Our bandwidth headaches are all gone. Anyone want to buy some Toughswitches?

Thanks Bill, but yea we have a pile of ToughSwitches headed to eBay later today as well!
