WS-12-250-AC dropping management traffic

We have a WS-12-250-AC which periodically drops management traffic every couple of seconds.

Code: Select all

416 packets transmitted, 264 packets received, 36.5% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.479/6.213/96.745/12.706 ms

Strange thing is this unit is at one of our core sites and L2 traffic flows fine through it. ICMP, SNMP and the web interface are all unreliable. It is on clean UPS power and has been up 143 days.

Running v1.4.7 on a rev F board. MAC is ec:13:b2:62:11:ee

Please upgrade to latest version first and see if problem still exists. v1.4.8 is the latest version.

If problem still exists you will need to provide more information.

Post up screen grabs if all TABs that have changes including Status, and Device/Status TABs. Follow the instructions in my post footer/signature on how to upload images.

Provide a network map and a better description of the issue.

As well check the port details (click on gear at end of row on Status and Port TAB and select port details and look for errors).

Are these packets going through a wireless link? What are these packets coming in and out of the switch and what are they traversing. You're making the assumption the packets are being lost in the switch?

Do you have any port speed limits on the QOS TAB set?

Hello Chris,

Thanks for quick reply.

Yes we are polling the switch over a wireless link, but we also see dropped management traffic (to the switch not other devices on the network) from other locally connected devices.

When onsite and connect to the switch directly, with my laptop in the same /28 so the packets are not routed - I see dropped ICMP and the web interface keeps reporting "Attempting to reestablish connection...".

No traffic passing through the switch at L2 between clients or to/from other sites is being dropped, only L3 traffic directed at the management interface of the switch itself. Should I still upgrade the switch if the "Attempt to reestablish connection" pop keeps appearing? what will happen if mgmt access to the device is lost during the upgrade procedure?

There is no QOS policy enabled.

Thanks,

Nat,

Well if this was me at my WISP with this issue I would play it safe and go on site, plug into the switch and upgrade it there if you're having issues pinging the switch reliably from your office.

I need a network diagram showing where your pinging from (your office I presume) to the switch showing what links and routers your go through to the switch.

Also after the upgrade post up the TABs.

We'll visit site early this week during a quiet period and upgrade the firmware.

I'll let you know how we get on.
