We have 4 Rocket 5 AC Prism radios connected and three 48v devices connected one of them being an AF11. When we connected a 5th rocket to the switch today all 24v devices turned off and turned back on. Tried a different cable, device and port same thing happens. The logs show the following.
switch[905]: 24V is out of range (20.6V)

The switch is being power by a UBNT edge-power current readings from it are Output Voltage 53.9 V Output Current 2.0 A Output Power 107.09 W. We are using dual power supplies so we have up to 300Watts on it. Our graphs show a dip in power on input but only by .3 see screenshot image of the event and lowest output voltage.

I have mentioned my issue on the facebook wisp talk and some suggest its a bad internal psu, my last resort is posting this in hopes that chris and show some insight on the issue and or RMA this device.

Our original WS-12-250-AC and WS-12-250-DC and WS-12-400-AC only had about 106 watts of 24V power.

Keep in mind at the time these units were designed the average 24V radio power draw "average" was 6+ watts with dips to 2 watts and peaks to 12 watts

There was more of a request at that time and need for the ability to power 48VH for AF, AFX, MIMOSA, and so on.

This is why or next line of switches will be available in 600 watts.

You say this but with the PRISIM radios during "PEAK" (Momentary draws) transmit time they can use upwards of 18 watts, and if your running the secondary radio possibly more.

So if your running 5 radios and they all peak near 18 watts plus your running the FAN and the 24V power supply does other things on the board as well.

so then:
18 watt peaks x 5 radio = 90 watts
Fan 1+ watt at peak
then there are other functions on the board also pulling some amount of wattage from the 24V power supply.

Also some users have found PRISIM radios that for some reason pull more power than they should, there are a couple posts on here about that.

Its not the switch SMART 250W power supply that is of issue or your switch would reboot and then in that event I would say it is starved for power. So many people run insufficient wire from batteries and or power supply to switch which causes dips.

If this wire is insufficient and amperage drops the power supply inthe switch will tell the switch to drop ports based on priorities set on the Power TAB.

If your wire running between your power source and switch is too small then voltage drops rapidly even for a split second and the switch power supply will tell the switch to drop POE ports.

So are you at least running v1.5.0 firmware on the switch?
What is the length of wire between power source and switch and what gauge is this wire?

The input voltage did not drop but .3v and the cable is #12 75ft~ish give or take a few feet.

Well to be fair AWG is not rated at 250 watts @ 53V 5+/- amps at 75' but since your input voltage does not drop say if you were hooked directly to batteries.

Imagine if you were trying to push 150W at 10V which is 15 Amps.....

We never really designed these switches to be mounted very far from the power source and we always intended it to be hooked directly to the battery bank which is why it accept 9V to 72V range so you could use 12V/24V/36V/48V battery banks and drain them to as low as you like down to 9V to keep a tower up.

If your going to power our switch with a power supply which is always a constant voltage why did you not buy the model that was intended for this applications, the WS-12-DC which is a lot cheaper.

But that aside, I am going to "guess" your issue is the 106 watt 24V power supply limit on that board. As I said newer models selling today are rated at 160+ watts. However you can upgrade that 24V power supply yourself or RMA it and have it done for a nominal charge.

Also you never answered but I hope your running firmware v1.5.0 or newer.

Sorry, we plan to upgrade to that firmware tonight. The screen shot i posted shows that the FW is at 1.4.8.
We did not buy the dc switch because at the time it was unavailable to us. Secondly, if i get a bigger switch say the WS-26-DC will that handle more than the 5 prisim radios on 24v? What will it handle 24v wise? To me if someone where to buy a 250watt switch it should be able to handle 250watts on 24vs should that person decide to put all the ports in 24v mode. I don't mind switching the switch out to the 12-DC because i still have to have a replacement switch to keep my tower up anyway ( will still RMA the switch for yall to do the repair professionally)

Yes, all WS-12 models now support 160+ watts of 24V power
With the WS-26 there are TWO seperate 24V power supplies, 1 for ports 1-12 and another for ports 13-24, each capable of 160+ watts

As I said keep in mind when we started Netonix what people wanted most was the ability to power AF, AFX, MIMOSA, and other high powered radios.

As it is we are providing the user the ability to power more than the power supply can even handle so this requires a little forethought on the user's part or common sense.

For instance there are (4) 48VH ports on the WS-12-250-AC/DC switch. Each 48VH port can deliver 1.5A constant to 2A peak power so that's 200 watts right there of a 250 watt power supply. Also when we designed the WS line of switches the most popular 24V radios were the airMAX M series with an average power draw of 6 watts (peak to 12). SO if you assume 2 to 4 ports are powering 48V or 48VH that leaves 8-10 ports for 24V and of the average radio is 6 watts that's only 60 watts average and we allowed for peaks to 106 watts.

This design (the WS line) is 4 years old already, shit changes and we have made modifications as we progress to better handle things.

But the newer WS3 line of switches is a even beefier with 600 watt power supply options and (8) ports that can deliver 48VH.

We also provided people with a do it yourself instructions on how to upgrade the 24V power supply themselves if they wish, how many manufacturers do this?

Just about every MOD or defect in our design we have been open and provided information on how to upgrade or fix your unit yourself.

Would we be able to beta test this new switch? When is the anticipated release date? Also i had no idea thanks for explaining all this to me, makes sense now...
