Feature Request: Change PoE Voltage

I have run in to this situation several times now. Our technicians inadvertently (or not knowing any different) power up a radio on 24V Poe, when it supports other PoE settings as well (Think Airfiber 5X / HD). I would love the ability to change the PoE output to 48VH without having to roll a truck to site to do so (these are the main backhaul in to the tower). Is this a possibility to add to the roadmap?

This is something we could administratively correct, however in most cases we have our guys turn on 24V Poe, as it is safe for every device we use with a few minor exceptions. Having them understand all the different modes isn't as simple as it may sound.

So we have a SAFETY feature that prevents the user from turning ON POE or changing POE when there is a link detected.

I fear allowing users to by-pass this feature would result in more RMAs of switches.

I will ponder this, if everyone was HONEST it would be a no brainier but we get so many RMAs with total BS stories including unit came DOA when the internal chronometer shows many many hours of operations plus a very complex configuration in place.

I suppose we could make a POP up WARNING similar to when you turn on VH POE option stating that you are turning POE ON or changing the POE option when there is already a link active?

I definitely understand why it is setup the way it is. I would be happy with a difficult way to do it even, something really buried that somebody wouldn't "accidentally" do and then try to RMA the unit.

I'm trying to change the POE output on a backhaul interface from 24V to 48V (the backhaul is a Mikrotik LHG60, it can be safely powered by either 24V or 48V) so we can upgrade the backhaul with an AF60-LR (48V only), but I'm unable to change the voltage. I'd like to preemptively change the voltage while the Mikrotik is plugged in to avoid unnecessary downtime, but we're unable to do this.. Is there any way around the block to change voltage on the POE port?

There is actually, you can do it via the CLI, just login via SSH and do it that way.

I would highly suggest that you turn power off to the port, or power the switch off prior to replacing a radio. This will allow the smart PoE to run, and prevent any potential issues that could damage your switch and/or radio.
