how to daisy chain multiple netonix switch with VLAN
how to daisy chain multiple netonix switch with VLAN
We are using multiple Netonix WS-8-150-DC in a heavily wooded area hardwired by fiber and low voltage to waterproof boxes. We want to separate the interfaces so that we can run OSPF from one CCR1009 Mikrotik router to another but haven't been able to do so with only one fiber and clients along the way. I thought that we could set up VLAN interfaces along the way and trunk from one switch to another along the way. But right now in my bench testing I can't see past the second switch and the second switch won't pass any traffic back to the 1st router. I feel that I am missing something basic and would appreciate any feedback. We are running 1.5.0 firmware. Attached is a screen shot of the VLAN tab on the switch and the interfaces on the Mikrotik

I do something similar with the WS-6-MINI.
Would you show "/interface vlan expo" from the Mikrotik?
On the Netonix, what is your MTU set to on the ports tab?

Re: how to daisy chain multiple netonix switch with VLAN
I assume you have CCR combo1 connected to Netonix port 7?
Which port then connects to the next Netonix?
Which port then connects to the next Netonix?
Re: how to daisy chain multiple netonix switch with VLAN
yes, that is correct

Thanks for your help, I'm sure it has something to do with the tagging, I am currently researching through the forums and testing on the bench, Here's the Mikrotik /interface vlan expo:
/interface vlan
add comment="netonix port 1 15667" interface=combo1 name=vlan110 vlan-id=110
add comment="netonix port 2 15667" interface=combo1 name=vlan120 vlan-id=120
add comment="netonix port 3 15667" interface=combo1 name=vlan130 vlan-id=130
add comment="netonix port 4 15667" interface=combo1 name=vlan140 vlan-id=140
add comment="netonix port 5 15667" interface=combo1 name=vlan150 vlan-id=150
add comment="netonix port 6 15667" interface=combo1 name=vlan160 vlan-id=160
add comment="netonix port 8 15667" interface=combo1 name=vlan180 vlan-id=180
add comment="Rick netonix port 1" interface=vlan180 name=vlan210 vlan-id=210
add comment="Rick netonix port 2 " interface=vlan180 name=vlan220 vlan-id=220
add comment="Rick netonix port 3" interface=vlan180 name=vlan230 vlan-id=230
add comment="Rick netonix port 4" interface=vlan180 name=vlan240 vlan-id=240
add comment="Rick netonix port 5" interface=vlan180 name=vlan250 vlan-id=250
add comment="Rick netonix port 6" interface=vlan180 name=vlan260 vlan-id=260
add comment="Rick netonix port 8" interface=vlan180 name=vlan280 vlan-id=280
MTU on the switch is the default 1528
Looks like it is also the default on the Miktorik: 1500 and 1576 see screen grabs please. Thanks again for your help...

Re: how to daisy chain multiple netonix switch with VLAN
This is what I see and infer from what you've posted:
Mikrotik A (combo1) <-> Netonix 1 (port 7)
No VLAN <-> Management VLAN
VLAN 110 <-> Port 1
VLAN 120 <-> Port 2
VLAN 130 <-> Port 3
VLAN 140 <-> Port 4
VLAN 150 <-> Port 5
VLAN 160 <-> Port 6
VLAN 180 <-> Port 8
Mikrotik A (combo1) <-> Netonix 1 (port 7/port 8) <-> Netonix 2 (port 7)
VLAN 180 <-> XXX <-> Management VLAN
VLAN 210(180) <-> XXX <-> Port 1
VLAN 220(180) <-> XXX <-> Port 2
VLAN 230(180) <-> XXX <-> Port 3
VLAN 240(180) <-> XXX <-> Port 4
VLAN 250(180) <-> XXX <-> Port 5
VLAN 260(180) <-> XXX <-> Port 6
VLAN 280(180) <-> XXX <-> Port 8
Is this what you expect? Or do you expect the same management VLAN to cross all switches?
I have not stacked VLANs on a Mikrotik without using the Service Tag (changes ether type from 0x8100 to 0x88a8). I have not stacked service tags across a Netonix either. Perhaps this is necessary?

Re: how to daisy chain multiple netonix switch with VLAN
Thanks for the reply. We got it figured out by doubling up on the trunk port.
