Firmware v1.1.8 bug reports and comments

Please post comments and report bugs for v1.1.8 in this thread.

FIXES
- Fix an issue where a small number of UI/CLI reboots or firmware upgrade could resulted in the switch becoming inaccessible remotely.
- Fixes for Firefox and Safari - YES MORE FIXES

EXPLAINATION
When this occurred the switch would come up as expected continuing to power devices and pass traffic as configured but you could not ping the switch or log into the UI or CLI. This could be fixed by plugging your laptop into the switch which would wake up the Linux UI/CLI and or some people just rebooted the switch.

KNOWN BUGS

- STP Priority is being reported as 0 regardless of setting
- If using DHCP and you change the Default/Management VLAN ID after the switch gets an address is does not get a new address.
- Not all CLI commands are present.
- In the CLI some voltages are reported incorrectly with the "sh status" command
- In the CLI not all command are present to configure VLANs

We really want to make sure we nailed this so please post if you upgrade and have no issues.

Now even if we did fix this there will always be a firmware upgrade that goes terribly wrong for some reason or another so bear this in mind.

When I push a Ubiquiti firmware upgrade to my 600+ radios I always assume there will be at least a few radios that never come back and I roll a truck the next day, it happens, nothing works 100% as expected every time.

What we are looking for or I should say not to have happen is a switch where the upgrade goes through, the radios at the tower are powered and traffic flows but you can not ping the switch or UI/CLI into it. Then if you go on site and plug a laptop into an open port BANG it works. If this does not happen then we know we got it, but with hundreds of switches out there I am sure a couple "may" have unrelated issues, it happens. If computers were infallible then why do we have to reboot our workstations all the time when they start to act weird for no reason?

We find that people take the time to report issues but few take the time to report that something works. What surprises me is we are WISPs, it annoys the shit out of us when 98 out of 100 customers who have no issue never brag about their service, maybe 1 out of 100 will tell someone their service is GREAT. BUT THAT ONE PERSON WHO HAS AN ISSUE WHICH MAY BE THEIR OWN MAKES IT THEIR LIFE MISSION TO TELL EVERYONE THEIR SERVICE SUCKS!!!

You all know what I am talking about, we deal with this everyday!!!

So I just finished another round of testing looking for this issue where basically I did 50 firmware upgrades and 100 reboots and I did not see the issue once. :working:

Dave just completed a larger test batch of 300 total GUI based reboots, & 100 total GUI based upgrades all ok. :working:

So I "think" we just "might" have fixed this issue! Sweeping

This single issue has haunted us for months and months and caused Eric to seek solace at the bottom of many Canadian beers!

No issue with upgrading from 1.14 to 1.18

I was still see false fan failing reports on 1.14

It has slowed down but still getting false report every 24 hours or so with 1.14 will test with 1.18 and let you know

Maybe the fan really is failing.

I will try the 1.18 firmware on other 2 switches I have in field, they are 8 port AC pre release as well. They are running 1.13 they started in with the fan 1 failures when I upgraded them to 1.13 as well.

suppose I could downgrade this switch on my desk as well back to what firmware it shipped with and see if still getting fan 1 failures.

There is no v1.13, I assume you mean v1.1.3

Please do NOT downgrade, there are some serious issues that have been fixed with v1.1.8, please install ONLY v1.1.8

If after installing v1.1.8 you still get fan failure notices then please report such but these are FALSE reports.

You are much better off with v1.1.8 then any other version.

Any previous version to v1.1.8 can cause you to lose control of a switch remotely as outlined in the release notes.

False fan failures are a nuisance at best and if they are still occurring we can work on that on newer releases.

There are reasons we release newer versions, most times they fix a BUG that can cause issues.

v1.1.8 is the most stable version we have, please never downgrade to older firmware.

We have been concentrating on fixing some serious issues and Fan failure detection has sort of taken a back seat, we will look at this issue as soon as all major issues are resolved.
