AF5X recommended poe power output.

Wed May 17, 2017 7:27 am

Hi.

Is my understanding correct, that for AF5X the recommended poe output on netonix switches is:

- 24V for cable runs < 160 ft, 24VH for cable runs > 160 ft [if the unit's mac address is lower than 04:18:D6:E3:08:E9]
- 48V for cable runs < 160 ft, 48VH for cable runs > 160 ft [if the unit's mac address is higher than 04:18:D6:E3:08:E9]

Just wanted to double check this, since searching yields older posts mixed with newer ones and there isn't a definitive answer.

Thank you.

Julian

from a power efficiency standpoint, if the unit's mac address is higher than 04:18:D6:E3:08:E9, the preferred method will be 48VH - higher voltage means less current at a given wattage, which means lower resistive loss of power in your cable in all cases. If it's under E3:08:E9, then 48V will be preferred, for the same reason.

they can be run at 24v or 24vh for short cable runs with no loss in effectiveness, but again, from an efficiency standpoint, it is not preferred.

Did you read this post: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1178&p=8809#p8809
Examples of devices that would use 24VH:
Ubiquiti AF2X on cable runs longer than 160' other wise you can also use normal 24V
Ubiquiti AF3X on cable runs longer than 160' other wise you can also use normal 24V
Ubiquiti AF5X on cable runs longer than 160' other wise you can also use normal 24V
To date the Ubiquiti AFX product line and Ignite Metrolink are the only devices on the market that use 24VH

NOTE: All new AFX radios now also support 48V and 48VH which is the preferred POE method.
Also Ignite MetroLink radios can use 24VH

Which AFX radios support 48VH is explained here in this post: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1215#p9040
