Well the WS-12-250-DC switch should be connected directly to the battery bank.
24V or 48V battery bank is best but it will work on a 12V battery bank but you only have 150 watts instead of 250 watts at lower voltages.
AGM batteries are best, cost a bit more but much better.
I like using a MINN KOTA charger as they are 3 stage and capable of charging 10A per battery for recovery if completely discharged. They are also smart chargers to never overcharge and do a taper down charge.

They come in 1,2, and 4 battery bank leads.
Since they charge each battery separately you can hook your batteries in series or parallel, it does not care.
If you use the WS-12-DC you need to feed it 48V +/- conditioned power
I also like to use OPTIMA AGM batteries, usually the Blue tops
