Alarm when errors on port

Is it possible to configure an alarm, when I have errors on a port ?
I just discovered today that I have faulty cable on a port causing slow traffic....

I could be nice that I discovered it myself before customers started calling!

and what sort of conditions were you thinking about, for example packet errors above a certain %??
