I tried a cisco power supply but no luck, now I built my own, two switches and neither will power up, any ideas?

Dumb question but did you connect to a port to see if you get link? I only power mine by PoE so I see a link state but AFAIK there is no other indication that it is powered up.
Also, is the centre pin the right size? If the pin is smaller than the inside of the barrel plug, it might not be making a connection.

thanks, I guess it was on, I was looking for those light configurations described before plugging anything into it

You're not the first to draw that conclusion. Probably won't be the last either. ISTR suggesting that Eric put on a POST light show like some switches do.

Sadly it is not possible to turn on an LED as soon as you apply power as the LEDs on the RJ45 Stack are controlled by the SOC which can not turn on until the switch boots.
We should have installed a power LED on the PCB that is independent of the SOC controller.
It takes about 30 seconds after you apply power either via the barrel connector or POE IN to bring the LED up.

airfiber 24 power supply works well as well, I ordered a bunch of them to have options,
