Ubiquiti is now saying that AF-5X can accept 48v. Should we use them on the normal 48v ports or the 48HV?

airFIBER 24 and airFIBER 5 require 48VH

If you power and airFIBER 24 or airFIBER 5 with 48V you will blow out your Ethernet Transformer on the switch and maybe the airFIBER and this tye of damage is not covered under warranty.

The new airFIBER X can use 24V on cable runs around 200' and 24VH for longer runs

Yes I know about af24 and af5. I'm talking about the airfiber x series. The post is in the edgemax alpha forum by UBNT-Gary.

I would be very careful trying that!!!!!

But why use a 48V port when you know the 24V port works fine SAFELY?

"IF" the device can handle 48V it could require less watts from the bottom but would cause more heat in the airFIBER X unit as it would be required to step down more to 3.3V and 1.5V to drive the board.

Not sure what UBNT is thinking as this will even further muddy the POE waters with their POE requirements across devices.

That is great if all will accept both and not just "NEW" units (boy that would be a mess).

I thought it was ODD that airFIBER X was 24V to start with but I am still leary to try this. I think I will let others cut the path on this one.

a multi-million company like ubiquiti can't recall and replace those 100s of AFx???..... GREAT!!!

Changing voltage requirements? check this one out, just cost me an ePMP, notice the pretty white one on left, it is now a paper weight.

Here we go:

" All AF-5X radios with MAC address 04:186:E3:08:E9 or higher support input voltages 19VDC to 53VDC."
