more logs? req or how to...

Mon Mar 07, 2016 1:18 pm

We are having an issue where an AF5X is dropping to 100M-F from 1Gbps. Was hoping there was a way to turn on logging of port speed changes so we could try to find a correlation. Seems to happen randomly, no known EMF around that might cause the issue. We don't have ferrite chokes and we are on Shireen 5E at about 90' so we do have a couple things to try to keep this from happening, but it would be handy to see it in the switch logs.

I can ask Eric to add that to the Logs.

As a WISP with several AFX links we have combated this issue several times.

Most times changing the cable fixed the issue.
A couple times if the cable did not fix it changing the radio solved it.

Since the AFX radios now support 48V and 48VH if your currently on 24V you can type 48V.

This issue with AFX radios and link speed problems is all over the UBNT forums as well and with other switches so I do not think it has anything to do with our switches. However it is always a good idea to eliminate a possible bad port by switching to another port and see if problem persists.

One thing we have been learning is if you have poor grounding, meaning not a dedicated ground run to each antenna/radio that static discharge from wind blowing around the antenna with just the right humidity can cause Ethernet Errors. I talk about it in my grounding posts.

Too many people do not understand the importance of good grounding and recently I just learned how static charges can cause Ethernet Errors without proper grounding which I discuss in those posts.

I requested Eric to add speed/duplex changes to the log in the next RC version

I didn't mean to imply it was the switch, just that I want to see it happen in the logs to help troubleshoot.

These are older AF5X...If I understand correctly, only the newer units handle 48V.. Is that right? If I shoot 48V up to my older AF5X models, they'll fry yes?

We have a number of cables run to the roof, getting the same issues on all, but they are all CAT5E and we weren't allowed to run them because of facility policy so I don't know if they are near some lights or something.
