Install and Configure 2 New WS-8-150-DC

Fri Jul 22, 2016 8:05 pm

I have just received a new WS-8-150-DC device, which is destined for a remote deployment scenario, and want to be sure I am correctly installing and configuring before I begin. My thanks for the guidance.

Site Specs
- 1 x Netonix WS-8-150-DC
- 1 x Ubiquiti NBE-5AC-19 (24v, 8w max power consumption)
- 1 x Ubiquiti NBE-5AC-16 (24v, 6w max power consumption)
- 1 x Ubiquiti UAPOutdoor+ (48v 8w max power consumption)
- 1 x Tycon Power PST2448-50-140 solar kit with charge controller and 24v battery confighttp://tyconsystems.com/index.php/35w-continuous/339-rpst2448-50-140All Ubiquiti gear will be powered by the WS-8-150-DC.

The charge controller included in the Tycon kit exposes a wiring block that provides "24V 35W" power, from which I intend to power the WS-8-150-DC.

How much current does the WS-8-150-DC draw? By my (crude) calculations, Ubiquiti gear will require no more than 22w, and I should have access to "35w" from the charge controller. Can the WS-8-150-DC survive in this scenario on the remaining theoretical ~13w?

Thank you again. Learning as I go here.

I see from viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1900#p14106 that the WS-8-150-DC can be directly wired to the 24v battery configuration, so perhaps that is a better option than wiring to the charge controller device included in the Tycon kit?

Again, thanks for sharing any expertise on this.

Correct, use the unregulated voltage from the batteries, Don't use the 35W regulated tap. It cuts too close to the max draw. My WS-8 was drawing almost 5 watts with no PoE load.
