I am trying to setup a simple ring with MSTP. I want the untagged management vlan blocked on one port and pick one path over the other. And then I have a vlan between two netonix on one link I never want blocked. I can get RSTP working and blocking what I need. When I setup MSTP, I can not keep the vlans passing. I setup the names and revision number on all the switches to the same. I select ports on CIST. I have tried setting up instance 1 on just the two netonix with the vlan, and also vlan 1 in instance 1 on all switches and then instance 2 with the vlan. The vlan always gets blocked along with the port/untagged. Can I get some help with this config? When I select the instances, it shows what is blocking and forwarding per instance correct? I see an enable on the instaces pages but cant enable per port or save. Is this normal?

Please post the 2 switch config for both instance and don't hide name.

two switches. vlan 30 tagged on port one only.

Try unpriorize on both switchs.
Could do the same with cost that also affect choosen path but in an other way.

Which firmware version ? Are you up to date with last RC ? The're was some fix added to 1.9rc1 for MSTP, don't know since then, but I didn't have much to time but, from what I remember, it seemed to behavior ok starting with this version but I didn't tested much.

Well our switches support STP, RSTP, and MSTP "standards"

STP = IEEE 802.1D
RSTP = IEEE 802.1w
MSTP = IEEE 802.1s as an amendment to 802.1Q, 1998 edition and later merged into IEEE 802.1Q-2005

MSTP works the same across all switches no matter who makes the switch as it is a standard.

Since our switches follow the standard there is plenty of documentation on the protocols readily available on the net.

You should explain what you want to do first.

From what I see, you only changed priority in CIST. You must set a lower priority or lower cost on port you want STP to choose and do it on both switch.

If you want instannce 1 to pass through port 1, then set a lower priority or lower cost on this port on both switch. You can also set an higher priority or cost on port 2 instead.

You should read on priority and cost but in larger network, cost is a better option while priority is fine if you want to control the behavior only between 2 switch.
