First Port on 8 port Wisp Switch Shorting out

Thu Aug 15, 2019 5:12 pm

We have had 4 switches now where the first port has gone haywire and shorted out the piece of equipment that is on it. After it does this that port is no good, the others seem to work fine. Any idea on why this is happening? We have followed as closely as we could the grounding instructions. Thanks Jason Keller Horizon Net

So having 1 switch with a bad port 1 would be very rare, but having 4 switches all suffering the exact same fate tends to point to something your doing wrong. What this is would be impossible to even guess with the limited information you are providing.

So I assume we are talking about a WS-8-150-AC?

If so that port allows the following POE options: 24V, 48V, 48VH.

Possible causes for shorting out a port:
- Using the wrong POE option
- Powering a device that is not compatible with the POE PIN OUT polarity.
- Shorted cable, I have seen people crimp ends on a a live POE cable which creates a dead short.
- GROUND current.

Maybe provide some more detailed information
