Is there enough room inside to stick a diode bridge on the inputs so we could power the WS-12-250-DC via AC low voltage?
This would also make reverse polarity a non-issue.

seems like a very specific need... you could just put the rectifier in-line if you want to push low voltage AC....The advantage of AC is that it's moderately safe at higher voltage, so you can keep amps down on a wire and run it distance... low voltage AC offers very little...

it would be nice to have polarity protection on the DC input though...

I think the new WS-8-150-DC has reverse polarity protection but is still not an isolated power supply for safe operation on negative 48V DC sites which is expensive to implement for such a small number of users but we keep talking about it.

our new WS-8-150-DC has polarity reversal protection, hook it up the way ya to in regards to polarity...and always bear in mind the negative input is also our negative output, so our POE is not isolated electrically from the DC input power.

in regards to putting a bridge rectifier internally, you will void the warranty, so I am not going to recommend it. if you want to put one outside the box, i guess you could if you want to, but depending on your load, the bridge rectifier will heat up a lot....

I wasn't recommending putting the rectifier in the case... just in-line before it inputs.. if low voltage AC is really wanted..

Curious. So are you thinking of using 24VAC (which is common in some security applications, for example) with a bridge rectifier to provide unfiltered DC?

If the power supply doesn't mind dirty DC and you have > 6A capacity in the wiring and rectifier it shouldn't turn into an ElectroBOOM episode ("Full Bridge Rectifier")

I reached out to Dave regarding this matter. I believe the new WS-8-150-DC model includes reverse polarity protection, but it still lacks isolated power supply for safe operation on negative 48V DC sites. Implementing such isolation can be costly for a small number of users, but it's a topic we continue to discuss.
