Fan 1 is failing

Thu Dec 31, 2015 2:08 pm

We are getting an alert from a particular switch saying:

Fan 1 is failing

Do we get a replacement fan somehow? Seems like installing it would void the warranty.

We have probably 50 switches in service and this is the only one we have seen this alert on.

Its a DC 12 port, in a very cold environment at about 9000 feet elevation.

Just wondering....

I'm having this same exact issue on just one switch. It's a WS-12-250-AC. It's been sending me the same alert for the past few weeks every once in a while. the average temp of the CPU seems to fine though...hovering around 50C. Board right around 37-40C. It's in a nema box in 14F temps. The fan keeps shutting off every once in a while despite the temp not going down at all.

If this does need a replacement, do you have a way I can get a replacement and then ship the broken one back?

Please upgrade them to firmware v1.3.9rc8 and see if the error stops and let me know.

It's an RC, is it stable? My switch with the issue is my largest and busiest POP.

Yes, I am running it on all my towers.

What version are you currently running?

1.3.2
I have most of my other switches on 1.3.8, but this one being my busiest I haven't felt the need to upgrade yet. All of my other upgrades have caused a brief outage when I upgraded them. I'll put in for the change control tonight and get this one upgraded by next week. Hopefully this is a benign error and this will resolve the issue. I'll report back. Thanks

v1.3.8 - FIXES
- Select all ports and add POE did not work correctly
- Port 1 Enables itself on reboot if disabled
- UI formatting Bugs
- Changed PoE Smart to now only check for "cross-shorts"
- Change voltage calculations to use 1 decimal point of precision
- Fan failure detection changes
- Better I2C error handling, primarily helps DC switches but better for all- Fixes for DC switches Power Tab conditions

Now it does not say in the release notes but there was some additional "false" fan alert fixes in v1.3.9rc8

We'll not be attempting this until Summer. There is something like 15 feet of snow up near there :)
