I have tested mine with our mail server and GMAIL account before and it works just fine for me?

But that does not mean I did not break it in new releases, will check again and let you know.

OK, that worked but only after I enabled my email to be accessed by less secure apps.

Now that this is working, I am curious what it is used for. What events would trigger an email to be sent? Currently the only place I see is to email the logs. Will there be alert options in a future release?

Yes there are more planned events and this is why we are asking for feedback.

Currently you can email logs all be it that they are not very detailed logs yet.

You get email on ping watch dog fails.

We will eventually add more options to get alerts but for now we are working on the meat and potatoes first and will come back and finish desert later.

We probably will add things like:

Fan failure alerts
Temperature alerts
Traffic alerts
PPS alerts
Login fail attempts

The field is wide open here for suggestions.

First we wanted to make sure the switch does everything thing the Tough Switch did and more which we have I think?

Our WS-24-400B has an MSRP of $550 which is really a 26 port switch so if you take the MSRP of a ToughSwitch PRO 8 which is $180 and divide by 8 ports you come up with a port cost of $22.50 per port.

Then take the MSRP of the WS-24-400B and divide by 26 ports you comeup with a port cost of $21.15 per port.

Now what does a ToughSwitch do that a WISP Switch does not do? - Nothing that I can think of?

What does a WISP Switch do that a ToughSwitch does not do:
LACP Aggregation
Static Aggregation
Power airFIBER/SAF Lumina/Exaclt
Passive current sensors
Loop Protection
Packet Storm protection
Bandwidth limiting and PPS limiting per port
Better graphing
SMTP alerts
SNMP support
Cable diagnostics
Temperature sensors
Cooling fans with Tach monitoring
Detailed port statistics
Port Mirroring
Scheduled port bounce
Detailed MAC Table
Configure flow control per port
More packet buffers, a LOT more

And for what ever it is worth it is made in North America, hell the boards are assembled in Canada not China!

Thanks Chris, I was not complaining nor criticizing, just curious. I did not want to try to force things such as jam a fan or put a blanket on the switch to raise the temp to see if it would alert me.

If you plan to alert on link state change, I would think that should be selectable per port.

I am curious as well what you have in mind for SNMP logging and traps. At work I used to have WhatsUp Gold. On my hotspot network I used a syslog server.

I think Rory and Tom (my WISP network guys) currently use Open NMS?

I was talking to Mike Calvin (Magician) the other day while he was setting up SNMP for the switch he has in service and he told me what he was using and I forgot.
