This will only be powering four AF24s and nothing else. We have WS-12-400-AC's doing it now but want to switch to DC.
Is this enough without stressing the power supply?

The WS-12-DC doesn't have a power supply. You need to supply your own regulated power.

Yes, I have plenty of power at the power supply. But the unit is only capable of 250W. While 4 AF24s will you about 200W,
just want to make sure it will work properly.

Re: WS-12-DC Power 4 AF24s?
The WS-12-DC does not have a power supply and thus does not have a power rating limit other than the Poly Fuse ratings on each port.
If you look at our model numbers:
WS-12-250-AC which means it is limited to 250 watts
WS-12-400-AC which means it is limited to 400 watts
Where do you see that the WS-12-DC is limited to anything in the model number?
It simply requires regulated power of 48V+/- so the capacity is based on what is powering it.

Those two sentences seem to contradict each other. Are you saying your power supply is limited to 250W?midsizewisp wrote:Yes, I have plenty of power at the power supply. But the unit is only capable of 250W...
AFAIK the WS-12-DC is essentially a WS-12-400-AC without the AC power supply. I cannot see why it would not be able to pass up to 400W with a little safety margin as well.

The WS-12-DC can deliver between 10 and 12 AMPS total if you supply it with enough power.
If you have a 500 watt power supply then your fine.

Re: WS-12-DC Power 4 AF24s?
Does the WS-12-DC have any internal fusing? The one I have seems to be working fine except enabling POE does not actually put power on the ports. They are all working fine and passing traffic if the device is externally powered, but even though the interface says that poe is enabled on the port, it does not actually power up.

No there are no internal fuses.
Upgrade the firmware and then when you apply POE power to a port is there anything in the log such as SMART POE disabling power?
If not then you need to RMA the unit.

I've not worked with that model but wonder if your DC voltage is too low if that would prevent it from turning on the PoE. Remember that model is expecting to see conditioned 48V nominal. If your input voltage is unstable, you should use a model with a DC power supply.

Well Les is correct that if the input voltage is too low it disables 48V POE as it expects conditioned 48V input.
