No, this is not normal. The voltages should be very stable.
What are you using for a POE load when you made this video?
Are the voltages stable without your POE load?

Also please describe your setup.
Where is the switch located?
How are you powering the switch meaning where does the AC power come from?
What is the switch powering and where are they located?

See below for devices
No they are the same with the ports powered off - tested for ~5 mins
IIRC they were much more stable when the switch first went in - but it's been an insane month.
I plan to add 4 more G3s to this switch, and think that should be well withing my POE budget.

On the wall.
Powered via a standard outlet, about 30' run from the load center.
Yes I know it should be conditioned, just haven't had time/budget to get a rough service UPS installed.
POE is powering 2 UVC-G3 bullets, and an mPort.
Switch is located approx where the 8 in 22.8' is in the picture (to the right of the door), and mPort is just to the left of the door.
The outside G3 is under the eaves, and uses ToughCable run in the rafters to the soffit.
The rest are regular Cat5E
Note on the cables: I didn't join AT&T in the 80's because I'm colorblind.
I know they don't follow standards, but I have a pattern and have been following it for decades and they always pass cable tests.
Feel free to break this thread off if you wish since it was originally for a WS-6-MINI.

Re: Power out of range? (3V)
Just out of curiosity could you turn each port POE OFF and unplug the cables one at a time and see if the voltage swings stop after your remove it.
Cycle through them all one at a time.
If none of the cable stops the voltage swings then for a last test move it to your bench (another AC power source) and see what happens.
If nothing fixes it then you need to RMA the unit.
However I notice you do not have a surge protector on this switch, this is bad practice.
I wish you would have noticed if it was like this when you first put it in (without a surge protector) as it may have been hit by a surge if this behavior suddenly started.
If it is a failed unit we will repair it for free if I open it up and a component is damaged from a surge there would be a repair fee.

I do not see a ground connection to our chassis ground lug....would be best to have it hooked up also.

Will run the cable test in the morning.
Fairly certain it was much more stable when installed, some minor swings, but not like it is now.
Haven't been eyeballing it cause it works so well, and time.
Agree it should have a surge protector, and am talking with my supplier about a UPS in another window.
More than willing to pay a repair fee if this was my FUBAR.
It's been a bear of a month with deaths in the family, work, etc etc etc and I'll be the first one to own up on cutting some corners on my own install.
Should have taken more time and done what I would have for a customer....

Crap... I forgot to put that back when I took out the ToughSwitch

Re: Power out of range? (3V)
I am not saying this is your fault (no surge protector and it took a hit), will not know until I bench it.
But lets see what the testing we outlined above tells us tomorrow.

Didn't mean to suggest there was blame being placed, other than by me on me
Trust me I know all about my customers not taking ownership
Will update with my findings in the morning.

OK... bad news and worse news.
Turned off POE and unplugged one at a time, no change in voltage swings.
Was about to bring it to the bench, and it started rebooting
- Code: Select all
switch[751]: Detected cold boot
Port: link state changed to 'down' on port 1
switch [753]: PoE enabled on port 1, PoE Smart is starting cable check
switch[753]: PoE enabled on port 2, PoE Smart is starting cable check
switch[753]: PoE enabled on port 3, PoE Smart is starting cable check
switch[753]: PoE enabled on port 4, PoE Smart is starting cable check
switch[753]: PoE enabled on port 5, PoE Smart is starting cable check
system: starting ntpclient
switch[753]: PoE enabled on port 6, PoE Smart is starting cable check
switch[753]: PoE enabled on port 7, PoE Smart is starting cable check
Lather, rinse, repeat
Brought it to the bench, same thing.
Endless reboots right after it powers up the ports.
Was just about to add the surge protector and ground strap too.... will do that when I swap in one of the new ones as soon as they arrive.
Do we want to RMA this one to find a root cause ? Thanks-Jake
