Hello and here is my Question:
Why does our switch repeatedly reboot if our tower goes down? Then, is there a way to pause boot ups for like the ePMP’s so the repeat booting does not cause an outage and/or make our Dragonwaves lose their configuration like we have been seeing on multiple occasions?
We have the Netonix WS-12-DC switch(Firmware 1.4.2)(powered by an Alpha Cordex unit with 56v) and the Netonix switch likes to power-cycle and it will keep power-cycling and will not let equipment come up and stabilize. Here is what we have powering off the switch; 2 Dragonwaves Horizon's(1 doing all the traffic and the other is redundant link (both running a Gig and 48VH1.5A and 52 watts on port 1,2)), 6 - 2.4 ePMP AP's(3-7 Watts on ports 5-10), 1 - 5.7 ePMP AP(3.1 Watts on port 11) and a Mikrotik CCR-1009-8G-1S(22 Watts on port 12) with all of these running at 100M-F and 48V 0.75A. The Wattage never goes above 163 watts after everything is up, is there something else I should be looking at like CPU(never goes above 30%) when booting up everything? The only way we can get this switch up and running is to go to the site and unplug or shutdown all ports by logging into with a local computer and bring them up one at a time. The Router was at a Gig for a while then it went to 100M-F and this has only a 6" jumper from Netonix to the Mikrotik(changed out the jumber with no difference). We are working with Wireless Beehive (Chuck) on this issue of the GIGe cards on the APC surge suppressor to get those ePMP's up to a Gig and this is not the problem with switch.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
Please install v1.4.3rc6 as there are some important fixes in that and v1.4.2 is close firmware so the only way we can address any found bugs is in v1.4.3rcX so please install that first and see if the reboots are still occurring. BUT ONLY ATTEMPT THIS IF IT NOT REBOOTING ELSE YOU WILL BRICK IT.
OK this question confuses me?
1) Are you sure the switch is rebooting?
If so explain why you say it is rebooting such as you see the up time in on the Device/Status Tab indicates a reboot occurred or have you gone on site and with a console cable and seen it reboot on it own?
How many watts is your Alpha Cordex unit with 56v
power supply and what is a link to the model in use?
The only reason I can think a switch will reboot is insufficient power.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
So to explain, when the Netonix's goes down from the Netonix system losing/flash of power briefly, the switch goes down which makes the whole site unreachable which is due to all the back-hauls, switches and all ePMP's trying to come up at the same time. Until we get the switches(netonix and mikrotik) up and get the back-hauls up communicating, then we have unplug the ePMP's, then turn off the ports to them, then plug in the ePMP's to bring up the ePMP's separately or it will overload and shut down then reboot, reboot, reboot, etc...
To answer the question to the Alpha unit, it is an Alpha Cordex CXRF 48-1.2kW running 2 rectifiers with one rectifier(the other rectifier is a backup) running at 20% and 5.2 amps and it is at 54 volts not 56 v power by two AC cords. The netonix's is powered from one of the Alpha's fused links on the side so it get the DC power directly from the Cordex with battery backup.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
To make sure we are both on the same page.
Yes of course the switch will reboot if it loses power "even briefly".
Yes, if the Cordex is incapable/insufficient of handling the inrush demand of the switch rebooting and then all the radios powering up it will reboot again.
What are you asking then?
Obviously the Cordex is underpowered/sized?

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
It never losses power and I am unsure of why it reboots, I just assumed that it was a power fluctuation, but when we go out here to get it up and running, it will be in a consist state of rebooting. The switch will not boot so if there is a way to get a configurable power-up delay so that all the equipment in here does not make it reboot like it has been whenever there is a load. This is the second Netonix that we put out there that has been doing the same thing, so it is the switch rebooting on it's own for some reason. The Cordex is not the problem, because if it would be drawing to much power it would be blowing the fuse on the Cordex.
So why is it rebooting on it's own even when the power on and normal? The Cordex is not under powered at all though!

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
do you have POE devices plugged into it when it is trying to boot up?

No POE devices, everything is powered from Netonix

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
sorry, I meant if the switch continually reboots, try removing all devices plugged into it & see if it is still resetting, or it only starts resetting when a particular device is plugged into a port.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
The only way we can get the switch back up and running is I have to go this site and unplug everything with only the dragonwave plugged in(READ ABOVE) and then it will boot up and I can only add everything back one at a time or it will reboot.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
can't suggest anything else to you...sounds like you have a bad cable or a bad device that is shorting out, probably, the 48 volts on the board....
