OR his inrush draw is too much for his power supply which is by bet.
I know he thinks not but inrush is several times more than a device says it uses.
You can test this but turning off POE too all devices then tell it to reboot then when it reboots fine then turn POE on for 1 port and reboot and repeat this until the reboots start again.
I am telling you the in rush is what is happening.
Also you could wire a volt meter to the switch input leads and monitor the input voltage.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
This happens on every unit and this is the second new unit that we put out there and this one is doing the same thing. Have you thought of a time delay for start up on the ports to help with these situations?

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
we have thousands of these units in the field, so I doubt it is the unit...and yes, their is a time delay in between turning ports on.
did you try powering up switch without any devices plugged into ports, and if that works ok, plug in a single device at a time to see what causes the reboots?

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
Just to clarify this issue a bit. There have been a couple instances where the WS-12-DC rebooted, could have been a power issue. Either way when power is restored there are 7 ePMP devices, 2 Dragonwave devices and a Mikrotik CCR 1009 connected to the switch. All devices are powered via poe from the WS-12-DC. When the WS-12-DC powers back up and all devices are plugged in it will continuously reboot under load. If you remove all devices from the WS-12-DC and then plug in one by one waiting for each unit to be powered up there is no issue. Current load is 160W. Is this normal behavior or is there a problem here?

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
The most common way this can happen is the switch is not getting enough power/current to handle the inrush of all the devices and the voltage drops even if for a brief moment and the unit reboots.
We do stagger the turn up of each POE port but obviously the inrush on these devices has not passed.
Possible causes:
1) Insufficient power supply, many times the inrush of a device may be 200% to 300% of average or advertised MAX consumption.
2) The power cable coming from the power supply to the switch is insufficient to handle the inrush load.
3) One or more devices is consuming too much power or more power than it is supposed to.
I have asked you to turn POE OFF on all device then turn them on 1 by 1 rebooting the switch after another port POE is Enabled and see if you can find where this limitation is coming from.
Or get a larger power supply.
Please post up a screen grab of the main Status Tab showing all the devices powered, I want to see all the port POE options and wattage draw.
Also the Device/Status Tab
If you had a spare WS-12-DC you could swap it out and make sure it is not defective.
Also I have asked people to upgrade to v1.4.3rc7 as there are severe bugs in v1.4.2 and older firmware.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
In regard to turning off poe on each port and starting one at a time. We just unplugged all devices as we were onsite at the time, turning up one device at a time does not cause the switch to reboot. I realize this not exactly what you were asking for but this is a large site so taking it down to test is not really feasible. If this occurs again I will certainly keep that in mind. The switch is powered by an Alpha Cordex CXC. The power for the switch is wired to the 48V power port of the Alpha Cordex. Wire size is 12AWG. There is a 5amp fuse on the port and that has not been blown.

Re: WS-12-DC repeatly reboots
OK so here is my 2 cents and when Dave is back later today I will have him LAB this as well with a FULL load and of course our power supply which we know is good and able to handle the inrush.
So anyway I wanted to see your status page to see how much 24V load you had which is basically nothing. The reason I wanted to know this is we down convert the 48V input 24V which is then down converted to 3.5 and so on to 1.5V which runs the SOC. Had I see a lot of 24V POE I would have thought it "possible" the 48V to 24V power supply on the switch board could be weak or bad but this in not the case. Also we want to take note that the 48V to 24V power supply will actually function down below 30V and still provide 24V and thus 3.3 and so on.
I also wanted to see your main Stats Tab to make sure the switch had not taken any previous damage which will often show up as a bad current sensor and the wattage on POE ports would be 0 or way off and this is also not the case so the current sensors are all good so no damage there.
As well all the voltage sensors are fine.
I am telling you the reason this switch is rebooting is the input voltage has to be dropping or even cutting out.
I understand you're saying there is a 5A fuse but that is not to say the power supply is able to push 5A.
Let's keep in mind your showing an average draw of 160 watts so in rush could be much higher, maybe as much as 500 watts for a very short duration and rather or not you're 5A fuse blows would depend on the type of fuse.
So anyway I will have Dave load up his WS-12-DC with 300 watts of load and power cycle our power supply and see what happens but I already know what will happen as we have done this before. I believe Dave pushed the WS-12 boards in the heat chamber at 55C with well over 300 watts during testing.
The next thing I want to complain about is the firmware, I have warned people to stop using v1.4.2 and older firmware as there have beens some pretty bad bugs fixed.
All that v1.4.3rc7 is so far is v1.4.2 with the found and reported bugs fixes, no other major changes to the firmware.
