FAULT on SFP 1, resetting...

I have a WS-12-250-DC running 1.4.6 whose logfile constantly fills up with this:

Jan 16 08:43:15 SFP: FAULT on SFP 1, resetting...
Jan 16 08:43:17 SFP: FAULT on SFP 1, resetting...
Jan 16 08:43:24 SFP: FAULT on SFP 1, resetting...
Jan 16 08:43:25 SFP: FAULT on SFP 1, resetting...
Jan 16 08:43:26 SFP: FAULT on SFP 1, resetting...
Jan 16 08:43:34 SFP: FAULT on SFP 1, resetting...

However there is no SFP in that switch and never has been.

Is there any way of suppressing this log entry?

I would be more concerned why you are getting this message, the unit may be damaged if there is no SFP module in that port or possibly some insects have made a nest in that slot and are causing issues????

I was assuming it was something software/firmware related as the message seems to indicate it already thought it had a functional SFP in the slot somehow.

I can take a look at the slot the next time i'm near that switch though. (The switch is fully functional otherwise).

I think I can rule out #1 & #3:



So maybe it has failed in some way, odd as the device is fully functional otherwise - maybe I should throw in a couple of SFPs into those ports and see if those ports do work.

(not I have tried disabling the ports fully in the configuration but its still logging these errors).

Things to try:

Power cycle
Insert a module - BUT if it is "damage" has occurred and not a faulty part UNKNOWN things could happen!!!

Interesting installing an SFP in the port seems to have shut it up:

Jan 23 13:22:10 SFP: I2C communications up to SFP 1

Does the SFP work?

What happens if you remove SFP?

Did you try a power cycle?

Just a quick followup.

The SFPs work afaik, but I can't check if they pas traffic as there is nothing else in the area other than the switch itself to plug it into and I wasn't to avoid creating a loop.

I haven't fully power cycled the switch, I'm unlikely to do that for a few months while its all working ok.
