WS-6-MINI powering AF5

Sat Jan 28, 2017 7:56 am

I have a WS-6-MINI that I power with the AF5 PoE adapter (50V 1.2A). The switch is then powering the AF5. But I have strange problems with the AF5. Sometimes signals drops completely.

I have tried several different frequencies, especially those airView shows as free and it seems not to be a frequency issue. I have noise free frequencies to chose among, but problem still happens. I have swapped TX / RX frequencies and used different etc.

For long time ago I have seen same behavior with an AF5 with faulty PoE adapter. Since I have replaced PoE with other one, the PoE seems not to be the issue, but I'm wondering if the WS-6-MINI can draw enough power to provide enough to the AF5. The WS-6-MINI is also powering an EdgeRouter X over the PoE.

Could it be the AF PoE is not powerful enough to power both the switch, the AF5 and the EdgeRouter X ?

This is electricity 101. If a power supply cannot deliver the needed watts, the voltage drops. Just look on the Device > Status page of the MINI what the Board 48V is.

How long are the cable runs? If there is a long cable between the AF5 and the MINI, then you would need to calculate the voltage drop.

If you are seeing too much voltage drop, you could use the 54V PoE brick.

Well if you want a larger POE to try to eliminate that as the cause
