Switch dead after setting bandwidth limits

Fri Mar 17, 2017 4:14 pm

I have a WS6 mini with a very basic config: 24V to 3 airmax radios. It's been rock solid for nearly a year. This afternoon I set bandwidth limits on a couple of ports.
A couple of hours later I got a moaning customer. I could see the radio but the WS6 sat behind wasn't responding. I asked him to power cycle, but no joy. Just been to site & the only LED on the device was the port where it was being fed with a UBNT big brick.

What's recommended step? Is there a factory reset? Googled it but failed to find one.

Thanks.

Well what version of firmware are you running?

One problem with using port limiting is people need to disable Flow Control on ports using Flow Control. The latest firmware version forces this to happen.

Yes there is factory default pin hole you can use a paperclip to reset it.

DIfferent type of factory default discussed here:

Many thanks for the fast response. Firmware version - about 6 months old from memory.
Lovely tactile button once I found that tiny hole. Seems okay after a reset, at least on the table here. Back to site to find out...

FYI I set the bandwidth limits without touching flow control.

I Managed to get it going after a full blown reset... and then...
The gimp I had on site initially tried plugging the Ubnt AC radio into the Ubnt 48V brick which was powering the WS6. This I assume blew the radio.
I then tried the radio in the ws6 without doing a cable test. The WS6 reset itself a couple of times.
Just to make a real mess of the whole situation I then repeated this with the feed horn and a 1ft ethernet cable. The WS6 mini was mounted vertically and each vent hole had its own little plume of smoke rising upwards. I felt sickened, and stupid. In my defence I had mixed up the 2 radios whilst up a ladder in 45+ mph winds in the dark & raining.
I'm heading to USA in a couple of weeks, so I'll bring it along & send for repair - what's typical cost & turnaround?

Bad day man......feel for you

Worst case if requires a NEW board $75, less if repairable

Turn around is a few days once we get it.

Are you precious about it going through an approved distributor?
I purchased in UK but will take to the US & ship direct to you , if that's okay?

RMAs should always be "direct" with us not through where you purchased it.

How can a DIstributor determine if the device was damaged or failed.

We instruct our Distributors to refer customers to us for RMAs.

Sadly some people damage their switch then try to send to place of purchase and claim it was DOA or failed for no reason when they absolutely know what happened.

But the nice thing about us is we will repair units when damaged by the user or are past their warranty period. Often repair even from lightning strike is about half the price of a new unit.

Sorry - Spent 10 mins trying to work out how to RMA this switch. I've seen it many times previously but now I want it I can't find it.
Could you post a link to the process?

Julian
