ws-6-mini lock up during firmware upgrade

Thu Mar 23, 2017 1:15 pm

I pulled a new unit out of the box. Programmed it and did an upgrade. I stepped away came back an hour later and the ui ad not progressed. After 2 hours I rebooted the switch. No I have Nothing. NO ethernet connectivity, just a power light from the ether1. What is next?
Reset button on the back does not produce anything.

One thing to try would be: hold reset button down, apply power, wait 45 seconds or so, and release reset button; then let switch sit for 5 minutes while powered, you should see it come up at 192.168.1.20.

Well, it was worth a try.

Unfortunately the RS232 port on that device is not user accessible, which limits remote recovery options. You'll need to RMA that, the procedure is here:

Sorry about that, usually you see this happen if an upgrade image gets corrupted somehow, but more often than not the recovery partition remains intact.

Actually a file getting corrupted in transit is pretty much impossible as the file is checked once it gets to the switch to insure it is intact and not corrupted.

And once the file is uploaded to the switch the entire upgrade process is done on the switch, what you see in your browser is just the switch reporting back what its doing.

In reality you can start the upgrade and once the file is transferred you can close your browser your computer has nothing more to do with the upgrade process.

I assumed that and that is why I start them and leave them. I will be sending you the RMA Shortly.
