Does anyone know the power consumption of the WS-8-150-DC during the shutdown time when using the "shutdown/startup" function? Also, it would be nice to know the power consumption of the switch with no POE load.
Thanks.
WS-8-150-DC Standby Power Consumption

Re: WS-8-150-DC Standby Power Consumption
Standby current consumption is .7 micro Amps (.000 000 7 A), so depends what voltage you're feeding it, it's a really really tiny number, though.
Note, this is power-off standby; This is hard-coded to occur when voltage sags below 9v (which we do not advise in normal operation).
If you're talking about port shutdown as 'standby', you'll see it range from 5-7w, depending on what the SOC is doing, link states, etc.

Re: WS-8-150-DC Standby Power Consumption
Actually the WS-8-150-DC does not hibernate like the WS-12-250-DC and when it is shut down as much as possible due to voltage drop it still consumes about 4-6 watts.
The WS-12-250-DC goes into a Hibernate mode that uses less than 1 watt.

Because the WS-12-250-DC is a more expensive 2 board setup
Since it is 2 boards we put a separate LOW POWER CONSUMPTION CPU on the DC power supply board and the switch board talks to the power supply via I2C so the WS-12-250-DC can actually shut down the switch board and then wake it up.
People Wanted a smaller less expensive version so we created the WS-8-150-DC
We are thinking of putting back in the hibernate and wake up function but it will be simulated compared to the WS-12-250-DC.
The WS-12 completely shuts down the switch if told too and just monitors the input voltage for wake up consuming about 0.1 watts. With the WS-8 we will turn off as many parts of the switch as we can such as fan, PHYs, and LEDs but we will be around 1+/- watt of power consumption.
This comes down to people wanting a Porsche but only wanting to buy a Volkswagen then asking why they can not corner at 120 Kph

The WS-8-150-DC was created to be a less expensive alternative to the more fully featured WS-12-250-DC which employs a separate microprocessor to control the DC power plant. The WS-12-250-DC will not allow the switch to power up until the voltage from the battery bank is at least 1V higher than the
hibernate
voltage.

Re: WS-8-150-DC Standby Power Consumption
Kevin,
If that AFX radio on port 1 is a newer unit then you are better to power it with 48VH not 24VH.
To deliver 24V over 48V means an extra conversation and less efficiency.
Read this post: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1215#p9040
After reading this post look at the MAC of the AFX radio and make sure 48VH is fine then change it if you can, its the smart thing to do.

Re: WS-8-150-DC Standby Power Consumption
Thank you for the information. My theory was that it would use less on the switch total input power. Gotcha, the AF is having to due (do) the 24v to 48v conversion then. I was thinking of the AF having to take the 48v and step it down to 24v. Thank you again and it will be changed now.
