Password / Login issue

Tue May 09, 2017 3:55 pm

I have a Netonix-M6 running v1.4.6; after upgrading to that version, I had the same issue I had on a few other Netonix switches moving to 1.4.6 whereby SSH login works, but the web UI does not (cannot authenticate). I did the 'cred pass' commands in SSH, but this time, it did not work -- I still could not login via web UI.

This M6 happens to be powered (via 48VH) from a Netonix WS-12-250AC, so I power-cycled it during a maintenance window. Strangely, since that power cycle, I cannot even get the SSH login to work. I still get login prompts from web UI and SSH, but I cannot authenticate with the correct password.

Is there anyway to fix this short of going on site to factory reset the M6 via the Reset button?

Thank you.

Julian

to my knowledge, not without being able to auth..

Yeah, tried admin/admin too, no luck. First time I have seen this particular problem!
Thanks.

Ok here is where it is IMPORTANT to read release notes carefully before you upgrade:

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2737&p=18943&hilit=+password#p18943
Below are 2 IMPORTANT things to consider when upgrading from a version previous to v1.4.4:
v1.4.4 - Fixed console login when using passwords with special characters

v1.4.5 - Fixed web UI login only using the first 8 characters of the password

If your password used special characters or was longer than 8 characters I would have first changed it to simple 8 character password for the upgrade then changed it back after the upgrade was completed because if your password was more than 8 characters you could be locked out.

If more than 8 characters then try using just the first 8, else SSH into switch and reset password from there.

SSH into the switch
DO NOT DROP TO LINUX AND TRY AND CHANGE THE PASSWORD TO LINUX OUR PASSWORD MUST BE CHANGED IN THE CLI ENVIRONMENT.

Once in the CLI type "?" and press Enter and you get a list of commands at that level.
You want to enter Config mode so type "Configure" and press [Enter]
Once in Config Mode press "?" and press [Enter] again for a list of cammands at that level
You want "credentials Set login credentials"

It is pretty simple CLI based on Cisco CLI.

After that you hit Ctril + "Z" to exit config mode

If all these fail you may need to console into the unit and change the password or factory default it.
