WS-24-400A 24v rail low, no power to two devices of several

Mon May 15, 2017 3:17 pm

Oh how I hate Web forums. The back button after preview lost an hour of editing and data gathering. The switch came very close to being a total loss due to web forum editing failure. GRRRRR.

Ports 11 and 12 dropped link today.

Power enabled no ethernet link.

Log shows warnings of low 24v rail and two fans offline.

Screen Shot 2017-05-15 at 12.33.33.png

AF5x from port 12 now in port 10.
Code: Select all
Pair 1 Status (Pins 1,2) (Pos) (Orange) Open
Pair 2 Status (Pins 3,6) (Neg) (Green) Ok
Pair 3 Status (Pins 4,5) (Pos) (Blue) Open
Pair 4 Status (Pins 7,8) (Neg) (Brown) Ok

Pair 1 Length 78.74 ft / 24 m
Pair 2 Length 620.07 ft / 189 m
Pair 3 Length 78.74 ft / 24 m
Pair 4 Length 620.07 ft / 189 m

Bad cable or end.

Rocket M2 in port 11 showed ok, ok, don't remember, don't remember, abnormal termination. Length was about right. Did not power on in port 7. Put it on PoE. Turned off power to port 11 and 12. Both devices link properly in port 11 and 12 while running on UBNT PoE.

Measured voltage on port 7 1.7 to 1.8 v

Port 5 is WS-12-250-DC to which I am going to attempt to move the backhauls and APs. Port 13-24 are in building wifi and cameras. I don't care if they drop during testing.

PLEASE UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE TO EITHER v1.4.7 or v1.4.8rc2

But I am guessing that unit should be sent in RMA to check it out.

Can you post up your Status Tab

I am thinking you may have some damage on ports 11 and 12 that took out current sensors and or transformers.

I will try the upgrade tonight during maintenance time. In the meantime, I'll build the WS-12-250-DC to take over in case of total failure.

We've had a lot of weather over the past month, but nothing since the 11 th. Doesn't mean damage didn't happen before then.

Any chance of a cross ship if we still think it needs to be RMA'd after the software upgrade and hard power cycles? We can survive without the 48 port for a few days, but we'll have PoEs all over the place. Ugly. But it's what we had before the Netonix.

We don't do exchanges we repair units.

So you get the same unit back repaired so make sure you do not throw it in a box without proper padding. I have seen people literally throw 5 switches in a box no padding what so ever and the box sounds like a rattle when it gets here.

The nice thing with us is we will repair units past warranty and damaged units so long as we can get parts.

So I "think" this unit will need RMA'd but try the upgrade.

Follow RMA instructions here: posting.php?mode=reply&f=17&t=2755

yea, you will need to RMA this unit.
It either has a failure or was damaged.
In case it is damage it is always good to review your grounding system.
Here are some good posts on grounding:
