WS-12-250-AC No traffic !!

Wed Jul 12, 2017 9:19 am

Hi everybody
I have a strange worry about port No. 1 on a WS-12-250-AC
When I activate the POE 48 V and I connect my camera I have the voltage but no traffic "green LED" !!! So I figured my wiring was bad! :pissed:
But curiously when I plug in POE 48 V on port 2 3 4 5 6 7 ....... Everything works well !!!! :screwb:
If I just connect a PC to port # 1 it works the green LED is on! .... :screwb: :screwb:
Really bizarre what to do to repair this port ??? :?:

it can have to do with the length of the cable used - a stressed transformer might not attain a link with a longer cable, but will work okay with a short cable.

What do cable diagnostics on that port say with nothing plugged in?

the green LED means that the physical interfaces can each 'see' down the cable to the other end, and can signal each other as necessary to communicate at the set line speed.

To carry the metaphor further, if the physical interface on the switch's side gets a poke in the eye from a static spike or something, sometimes it will 'squint', rather than keeping it's eye all the way open- this will leave it unable to 'see' the entire way down the cable.. The physical interfaces will attempt to negotiate a lower line speed, and if unable to, you won't get a link on that port.

You should have no trouble getting a link at even 100m, with a properly functioning system - my assumption, here, backed by what you're telling me, is that something isn't working correctly. This is why the question about cable diagnostics with nothing plugged in - which you missed answering :)

Hello
So I repeated several attempts, changed the cable but it is always the same ...
On port 1 in POE 48V no traffic "green led" and I take this same cable on port 2 POE 48 V and it works very well .... :screwb:
It's really weird
