WS-12-250-AC Rebooting

Wed Nov 08, 2017 10:33 pm

Hello,

I've unpacked a new WS-12-250-AC switch, and unfortunately it keeps rebooting without any obvious reason.

When initially powered up it will sit idle fine for approximately 10-15 minutes. During this time I can log into it with my computer and the system status screen shows normal readings. It will then simply reboot.

After the first unexpected reboot, it will then reboot approximately every 2 minutes or less.

When the switch boots back up, I can't see any errors in the in the log.

I can leave the switch unplugged overnight and the next day it will repeat the same sequence when I've power it up again.

As a test I updated the firmware to 1.4.7. It took longer than usual compared to updates on our other WS-12-250-ac switches, though there were no errors and it completed well within the 10 minute window before it starts the reboot loop. The newer firmware appears to have made no difference to the issue.

What are some things I can check or test please?

Can you please open the case and provide the serial number of the power supply?

That power supply was part of a batch that had a tolerance issue on one of the components- at the light load presented by just the switch board, the power supply will eventually (15 minutes to 2 hours) start to think it's seeing a problem and reset itself - once this cycle starts, it will continue, at shorter and shorter intervals, until power is removed. The squirrelly nature of the problem (from a test perspective) was also compounded by the fact that the units with this problem will run stably under a 30w PoE load or so.. Very tough to catch.

Please RMA. This issue is covered for the life of the switch, we'll get that fixed for you. Very sorry for the inconvenience, the RMA procedure can be found here: http://forum.netonix.com/viewtopic.php? ... =30#p20516
