The (gory) importance of circuit protection

Tue Nov 14, 2017 2:33 pm

This little fellow came in today - Apparently, in Saudi, dust can be an issue? My read here is, dust piled up, and then they had a slightly humid day, which soaked the dust with dew. I can only imagine what the discharge did to the batteries..

This board might have been saved with an appropriately sized inline fuse.. Circuit protection is a critical function that needs to be addressed.

Remember, folks, fuses are cheaper than the stuff they protect! Pirate6

Mind you it would need a fancy one that is self cleaning. Tackling the problem closer to the source is usually the best approach.

You'd be amazed what a Swiffer(TM) knockoff that is thinner can do.
Requires manual intervention, however. Time to change them in my office...
