Powering WS-6-MINI from WS-10-250-AC with 48V

Hi,

I have no free 48VH ports in my WS-10-250-AC. I needs to power a WS-6-MINI, so I connected it with 48 V.
I seems to work, but will it be stable or is it a no go ? (Plan is to upgrade WS-10-250-AC to WS-12-250-AC as it has 4 pcs. 48VH ports).
I will need to power 3 pcs. Rocket AC Prism Gen2 (24V) and 1 pcs. UniFi Outdoor (48V)....

I have 2 of the 3 Rocket AC Prism Gen2 turned on now.

Will I run into problems ?

The difference between 48V and 48VH is that 48V only uses 2 pair to deliver power verses 48VH which uses all 4 pair.

SO this puts a strain on the Ethernet Transformer and there is more resistance trying to push current on 4 wires verses all 8 wires.

Can damage the Ethernet Transformer on either the WS-10 and or the WS-6

48V is rated at 38 watts because it uses only 2 pair to carry current
48VH is rated at 75 watts because it uses all 4 pair to carry current

Assume a peak/max of 12 watts for each of those 3 radios you want to power so 3 x 12 - 36 watts + 4 to 6 watts for WS-6 = 42 watts

Do not forget cable loss - your right on the edge and may encounter radio reboots if current drops

Exactly and since the voltage was 50V when it left the WS-10 and is only 45V at the WS-6 this is telling your that you have cable drop of 5V which would be less if using all 8 wires with 48VH instead of just 4 wires with 48V.

The more current you draw through the 2 pair (4 wires) the more voltage drop you will see which is loss and this is putting a strain on the center taps of the Ethernet Transformers.

Think of it this way, if you supplied water to a house with a single 1/2 inch pipe versus two 1/2 inch pipes. You would not notice a difference if you only used one faucet at a time in the house with just a single 1/2 inch pipe but if you tried to take a shower while someone washed their hands and another person flushed a toilet you would notice a significant drop in water pressure whereas the house getting water with two 1/2 inch pipes the pressure drop would be significantly less.

I would replace that WS-10 as soon as possible with a WS-12 and switch to 48VH to power the WS-6

Exactly and since the voltage was 50V when it left the WS-10 and is only 45V at the WS-6 this is telling your that you have cable drop of 5V...

Input diodes on the WS-6 will cause a 1.4V drop so cable drop is only 3.6V which is not that bad. Of course the unknown factor is cable length and/or wattage draw. I've seen 41.9V on a heavily loaded MINI and the cable was eating 10W.

Unfortunately getting Netonix switches in Scandinavia is very difficult. Winther Wireless is often low on stock. And why You didn't manage to get a deal with AVD is still strange to me.....
Both are reporting difficulties to get Netonix switches. I know there's a huge demand. People just can't wait, so they buy something else.....
We're a least 5 wISP in Denmark using Netonix (And probably more). I know some who would like to start using Netonix. But current situation on stock is unsustainable, and not something new buyers will depend on...

Then I just can't understand why latest shipment to Winther took over 2 months ? I had backorder for over 2 months ???
I'm not sure who is not telling the true.
Strange is that both Winther and AVD have reported similar difficulties getting stock.

Maybe that's the case but I still hear similar story from Winther Wireless ? It took 2 months to get the switches I had in backorder ?
I don't have credit with Netonix. I do have credit at both AVD and Winther Wireless. That makes a huge difference from buying direct. Also if they had the switches on stock, I could order 1 or 2 when needed. Buying direct from you I have to order min. 6 if not freight and tax is eating it all up...
