It's possible you have a bad device on ports 1-12 that draws too many watts, I have seen this before in the past working with other customers.
This because a pain to track down. Previous customer used a POE brick and simply power 1 radio with the brick at a time until he found the port that was causing the issue.
Meaning you turn POE off for the port insert the POE brick.
But you are powering 11 ports all 24V which the 24V power supply for ports 1-12 is MAX 160 watts so if you 160 / 11 = 14.54 watts per port but that is MAX and it is never good to constantly push a power supply near MAX all the time.
When we designed these switches we assumed people would use 48V or 48VH on some ports not all 24V
With the cold weather more people are indoors many watching streaming stuff and radios use more watts during transmitting so you may be killing the 24V power supply for ports 1-12 ?
What type of radio is on each port. Many people power AFX radios with 24V and they should use 48V or 48VH which would free up more 24V budget.

Well these are my guesses:
1) You have a radio that is using too much power randomly - see above to track down.
2) Your pushing the 24V power supply to hard for ports 1-12 at peak transmit times.
3) 24V power supply for ports 1-12 is failing, the switch is several years old.
Again we had always designed these switch with the assumption that some ports would be using 48V or 48VH else we would use a 24V internal AC power supply and a secondary step up power supply for powering 48V devices.

Do the newer 26 port AC switches not have this same potential problem because all the ports are rated for 24v 0.75A where this switch has most ports only capable of handling 0.5A?
I went and looked at the 1 hour power usage graph for each port and the max usage was 10.7w on port 3, the rest were all around 8w in the 3-12 port bank. I know this is this morning, not last night during peak but kids are home from school today due to the cold so there is still a lot of traffic moving.

The 1 hour graph is an AVERAGE and does not show spikes.
The 30 second graph is also an average but is more realistic.
We take readings every second but we do not keep 60 seconds x 30 minutes data points as that would require too much memory.
That is why as you look at the larger graphs the peak usage is less as each data point is an average over a longer period of time.
That's why UBNT says MAX power consumption for Rocket M5 is only 6 watts which is an AVERAGE over time but you can clearly see in the 30 second power/watts graph that it peaks at 12+ watts during transmits and dips to 2-3 watts at idle/receive times.
So if you look at our 30 second graph you see high spikes than 30 minute and 30 minute graph has higher spikes than 24 hour graph as the period between each data point is an AVERAGE for that period.
The way this works is pretty standard, even NMS software looks at averages over periods of times. This is applied to power, data, and so on. Other wise when looking at a 24 hour graph it would all show the peaks and would be not accurate of power consumption used over that period of time.

Again as stated above the WS-24 and WS-26 have the same 24V power supply for ports 1-12 and 13-24 which is 160 watts for each bank of 12.
Most people use 48V radios for backhauls.
We build switches to meet average consumer utilization. If we built the switch to deliver full power on each port at all times the switches would cost a boat load more and would be a lot bigger.

So for the future would it be better to run two WS-8 switches instead of one WS-12 if I need to have 9+ 24V APs on a switch?
Also I might have missed it but can you list the 24V and 48V wattages for each switch model on the website so I can make sure I buy the right size switch for my planned jobs? I (wrongly) assumed that the W listed for the switch was the max wattage regardless of output V.

If the switch in question is the older design of 106 watts of 24V and it has occasional issues then the newer 160 watts should be fine. I would not run 2 switches unless I had no choice. - My 2 cents

Because of my need I went ahead and ordered a new WS-12-250 from BalticNetworks and will have it hear tomorrow. I then have one older one in the field and one on the shelf that would need to be RMA'd.
However one of them has been opened as I tried to see how hard it would be to do the mod myself, but I decided against it after looking at it. Will having a cut Warranty sticker cause any issues with the RMA?
