This is common practice with large organizations spanning several TZs that collect logs to a central syslog server.

We have fixed this in the next rc version that should be released late today

Here I thought it was by design and didn't want to get into a debate on best practices.

What about the SMTP from address? Makes sense that the particular switch be identified. If the from field is not filled in then perhaps use the IP addy or the Name at Location fields.

{edit} Maybe even support variables, %IP, %Name, %Location...

Good Suggestion, sent to development, may make it in todays release?

FALSE FAN FAILURE ALERTS

Wed Feb 04, 2015 8:24 pm

KNOWN ISSUES OR REPORTED BUGS IN v1.1.0rc19 and earlier releases
- We still have FALSE positive fan failure messages in the switch log and if you have SMTP enable you will get FALSE email alert.

This is a FALSE positive and has been an issue for several releases but was forgotten about, we will address in the next release. - NON CRITICAL

* Powers AF5 and AF24 and two ports power 24V Mikrotik routers.
* Uses Flow Control
* NTP and Email configured
* Uses no other features

I loved that I could see the upgrade detail as it upgraded; continued to power connected devices, was only down a total of 20 seconds during reboot.

Problems: NTP -- switch shows correct Zone time in status tab GMT time in log file

SMTP-- From Name is not populated, unless you call from Root what you want. I believe it would be nice if possible that it sends using the name of the switch.

What is SMTP currently used for? What is its future uses??

Thanks I am pleased you like the SWITCH!

So about SMTP Future plans:

Scheduled port bounce success or failure notifications
Configurable temperature alerts
Fan Failures
Login attempt failures
stuff like that, the field is wide

Now these enhancements and things like QnQ and enhanced VLAN Trunking where you specify what VLANs are OK to pass will fall into the v1.2.0 which we are not going to attempt any of the NEW features until we have a FINAL release v1.1.0 out for awhile with no BUG reports

Loaded rc19 without issue on a 24 port in the office, no issues so far.

You would think with hundreds of switches out there in service that we could get just a little more feedback? :roll:

Thats VERY true but we need to know if there are any BUGS in this version to fix before we finalize it.

Some people want a FINAL version of 1.1.0 instead of an RC version to install but if everyone does that then it gets finalized on our testing alone which is impossible to simulate and find bugs for all possible configurations.
