random port link issue wont resolve

Sun Jul 07, 2019 11:22 am

I am having a major issue have a ws-8-150 AC up a tower. This switch is brand new, a week old. It was our spare, put it in service last week after we lost the power supply in the previous switch. Now this morning one week later, we are having intermittent connectivity with the switch. Which of course is providing a major issue with connectivity. is there a way to factory reset this thing remotely? maybe a certain power sequence or something????

We have done a lot of troubleshooting on our side. when it does respond to ping, the web interface will load. but it doesn't stay up long enough to resolve. only thing we can think to do is replace this switch... but it is only a week old...... any suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated. This is affecting over 100 customers at present and we are at the tower trying to resolve this asap.

So this could simply be from a bad cable connection on one port.

So far this summer we have had to go up towers to pull spring tang and then re-insert ethernet RJ45 connector in radios and or in NEMA box on tower with RJ45 blocks as the temp getting warm and cool can work a connector loose.

When you lose access tp switch from normal path try connecting to switch via another source such as a AP plugged into it.

I would agree with you, except what i had to do to resolve it. I am convinced my power supply is bad and this is why. I was able to get the switch to stay stable by changing the port negotiation at the bottom of the tower netonix switch to 10 Mbps Full duplex. Once i did that, the port stayed connected and the switch stopped rebooting. I disabled all internet vlans so it wasnt passing anything but management traffic at the time i was doing this. Everytime i tried to access the webui, the switch would stop responding to ping and i would have to power cycle it in order to get it back.

Each time i power cycled, it stayed up until i tried to access web ui. I was able to successfully to log in to ssh and when i disabled POE on ANY port, the switch would stabilize and allow me to log in via web ui and it stays up without issue. To make sure this wasn't a single port issue, i jumped around enabling/disabling poe on multiple ports. So long as i do not turn more that 6 on at a time on this 8 port switch, its fine. as soon as i enable the 7th, it dies. total load is under 75W with all 7 turned on. at present its about about 68W and has had to be rebooted a few times since Saturday but has been stable enough. I setup a ping watchdog to auto reboot it when it freezes for now. That is working for right now until we climb again.

A bad connection could be stable at 10Mbps and not at 100Mbps or 1G.

I had AF5X radios which would start dropping down to 100M then 10M then drop all together and a simple unplug, spring tang, and re insert connector fixed it.

Also noise on a cable, or bad (kinked or stretched) can cause link instability.
