Should my fan be coming on more?

Wed Jul 10, 2019 2:17 am

I had to race up a hill and replace a dead Netonix switch today, no big deal as I have about 15 of them and in almost four years this is the first real failure.

I noticed before the switch died the fan was hardly ever going, but now I've put the replacement switch in (same model, same firmware) the fan is hardly spinning either.

I've posted a comparison between two switches, just different revisions of hardware, but both the same model. If I run the fan test the fan does show as spinning, and when we installed it it made fan noises while booting up too.

With v1.5.2 Fan does not kick on until board temp is 45C

If fan is making a noise (rubbing) trying adjusting the 2 fan screws because if they are too tight they can cause the fan housing to twist causing the fan to rub or even lock tight.

When I say the fan was making noise, it was no worse than normal, just the standard fan noise.. I have spare fans and do swap them out as every 24 months or so I swap the switches out for a refurb (dust / new fans etc)..

It just seemed odd that the fan was kicking in more on the second switch when it was identical firmware / model, just a different revision..
