faulty fan

I have a WS-26-400-AC switch it was new last year and never had traffic through it its basically a spare in-case my other one goes bad but anyway, Fan 1 and 2 are running at 8800 RPMs and fan 3 is off and shows ERR
Log file shows lots of these. so can I just replace the fan or is it in need of more repair? It has 1.5.2 firmware.

Well open the chassis and swap the fan wire ports and see if the issue is related to the fan port or the fan.

Also check to make sure the fanscrews are not too tight which can cause the fan to be locked up.

If the board fan port is bad you have no choice but to RMA.

If the fan screws are to tight loosen them a bit.

Depends on the board temp which is the "primary" metric that dictates fan speed.

Maybe post up a screen grab of Device/Status TAB

Also I forget what the unit does when 1 fan fails, it may simply put all other fans in full speed just in case. This would best be answered by Stephen who is the programmer that last changed the fan routines.

Ok so I had the switch off due to fan issue and figured I would get screen grab for you and fired it up and all 3 were at like 4500 like normal so i was at the site today and they were all 3 running so decided to mess with screws a little maybe loosen etc. I loosened the middle fan screws and it stopped working so i tightened and it starts working played with it a bit and found tight was better in this case as soon as I loosened it a little, fan would bind. Come to find out I watch status page and I made the fan stop and it was fan #3 which was my trouble one even though in middle position on switch and also another note, when fan stopped all together RPMS only drop to 3000 instead of what I would think would be zero. when running it goes back to 4500 giver or take and when stopped back to around 3000. So I think issues was just fan binding and I will keep eye on it but at least I know now, I believe.
This may be all normal Im just documenting in case others have similar questions.

hate to open old thread again but that fan still giving me issues often it doesn't turn and the other 2 go to 8800 rpms when it stops. I have tried messing with screws a few times sometimes i get it going good for awhile then a few days later back to trouble. Not sure what it is but i guess i will take it apart to see if i can find out and swap fans to see if any issues on the port but is there a way i can buy a new fan to just replace the trouble one since it will be apart as it seems it is most likely a fan issue of some sort.

Ok I ordered one of each since i have 2 different switches one with long and one with short it still shows the shorts are back ordered and thats the crucial one i need. I have placed the order so see if you can find a short to throw in. Thanks!
