WS-8-150AC - Crashed??

Thu Sep 12, 2019 7:50 pm

I just had a WS-8-150AC reboot on me and I am not sure why. Could it be failing or could it have crashed?

The switch is averaging 40-50Watts and is powering 5 RocketAC APs. It looks like before the switch rebooted that it was port flapping as my tower router log shows the link going up and down several times before the switch and all the APs on it rebooted.

This switch has been installed for around 2 or more years and it connected to the router with a 2ft premade ethernet cable. Neither the tower router or an Airfiber5X or Powerbeam5AC that are on the site but not connected or powered by the switch rebooted.

Just wanting to get an idea on if I can expect this to keep happening or if this was a one off event.

How can I predict that?

All I can tell you is "no this is not normal behavior" but then again you already know this.

If it happens again repeatedly swap out the switch with a spare and see if it still happens.

If it does still occur chances are it is not the switch.

If it stops happening then RMA the unit.

Well searching on the forums I found a lengthy thread that might explain my reboot. It looks like it could be the memory/crash issue.

I am upgrading my switches to 1.5.4 and will monitor the memory usage now to see if it is a memory issue.

If I would have to bet "if" it is an issue with the switch I would go with the 3V CAPs as you have sent me a couple units already that did have the defective CAPs.

Depends on how old the units is and if you recently upgraded to AC 1G links on this unit as 1G links cause it to occur more so than 100M links.

The memory issue that Matt has seems to be extremely limited to a "few" individuals.

Actually this switch is one of the ones I got back from RMA for the 3V CAP issue so I am sure it is not that. Either way I will keep an eye on it and see how the available memory progresses over the next 30 days.

Also I have not recently changed any equipment on the tower. The AC APs on this switch have been in place since February.
